Radio knobs for 1940 Dodge (C-1708)

I'm trying to find a matching radio knob for our 1940 Dodge. The radio is a Philco C-1708 and was used in all the Chrysler cars that year. I have looked at all the pictures on the web but can't really tell which is the right one. Our D-17 has the cream colored dash knobs, wiper knob and cowl vent knob.

I have seen references that point towards maroon knobs.

The one knob I have is different than all the pictures on the web. I would appreciate your insights or pictures confirming the right knob.

My 39 Chrysler had ivory knobs but not in that shape. Mine were literally falling apart, but they were shaped like the maroon ones you see in pictures. I've seen that knob you have before, I think it was on 1960s Philco radios, or maybe a Heathkit radio I built as a kid. I don't think the original application for that knob was automotive.

Here's a restored 39 Chrysler radio (not mine) - see the knob shape.

Well, that radio knob shown in the first pictures does look like something

used in other applications. However, it doesn't look too bad in the

automotive use. If you could find a pair of those in good shape, you

might just use them instead of originals......as those are probably real

tough to find. Unless you're going for a totally correct restoration,

you can use substitute items if they fit in. My thought is: you and I

may know it's an incorrect knob - but most people looking at your car

will not know the difference.

I wonder if the chrome knobs for the 46-48 Plymouth radio

would look right?

That little knob on the dash for wipers looks correct to me....but Im not

versed in your model of car.

Picture of radio knobs.

Picture of wiper knobs.

1939 radios were shared across the board including Dodge Plymouth Chrysler and Desoto. They were early plastic (bakelite?) and are as previously pictured in an earlier post. 1940 - 1948 and first series 1949 vehicles were of another style made of metal.

There were minor differences in radios 1940 & 1941 vs. 1946 47 & 48 but generally they were similar.

As far as the wiper knob, it does not look correct to me.

If you do a search I have previously posted pictures of correct wiper knobs by year as well as horn buttons and lighters.

Thanks guys. Good, helpful information.

I am fortunate that I am not missing too many parts so it's nice to get it right if I can. I believe I'll keep looking for some type of ivory knobs to match the other knob colors. This forum is such a great source of information.
