Removing floor shifter?

Hi Guy's;

Just about ready to remove the cab. It would be nice to get the shifter off, out of the way and cleaned up.......but it looks like maybe this is another item that has been messed about with on my truck. It appears like some brazing has been done to hold the pin in that retains the shifter lever. Do you think that this can be sweated out? And if so am I in for a difficult repair here?

Or is this the way it is supposed to be?

Thanks, Jeff

Just pull the cover off to get er done quickly-it's easy. You can un-braze it though.

You won't be able to pull the shifter out through the top of the cover like on modern cars. The cover needs to come off to pull the shifter through the bottom of the cover after pulling the 2 pins.

The 2 pins are supposed to be a tight press fit in the cover. They can and do get loose and if they fall out you loose control of the shifter. I guess someone brazed them in place so the shifter would operate correctly.

Thanks Bob;

So I guess this brazed condition is normal ?

I have looked through the manual and downloaded the exploded view (4 speed synchromesh) but neither say much about this.

I suppose I can leave it in place for the cab removal.

Jeff

my cab came off and went back on with the shifter in place. Just gotta watch for it.
