Frank Blackstone
I need to replace a leaking fuel line along the front cross member of the frame. Just before the original glas bowl fuel filter there is a 6-8 inch section of flexible fuel line. I see this as a weak link and want to eliminate it and use a continuous solid steel line along the cross member. Does anyone know why this is NOT a wise move and if there is a reason for the flexible line. Thanks, Frank whetrerrr
Young Ed
You need a rubber line somewhere because the engine moves and the frame doesn't. If you have all solid line it will crack and break from vibrations.
Don Coatney
Frank; The engine is mounted in rubber and floats. If you hard plumb the fuel line it will flex and brake over time. Stick with rubber for safety.
greg g
I replaced mine with a section of steel line. However, I cut it it in the center, off set the ends right and left a bit, then put in a loop of new ethanol compatable flexible fuel line (bought about 8 inches) and clamped the ends to the solid line. been fine for 5 years with no leaks. Plus it gives me a quick access for blowing out the lie to the tank if I need to.
Frank Blackstone
That is why I check will you guys before I jump into "improving" something. I did not think the engine moved that much but I will believe what you say. Since you gave such a quick response I will have to get busy. Thanks, Frank
garbagestate 44
I can tell you what not to do, don't get an original replacement as are commonly seen on Ebay. The same goes for the flexible oil line that goes from the engine to the cutout at the firewall. They look great but will fail being so old.
