stan's52
On my 52 Concoard I am installing the pistons. I have done my share of engine rebuilds in my life, and have never seen this. When installing the bearing shell in one rod only, the bearing sits below the surface on one side, and on the cap the bearing shell proturdes the same amount beyond the surface. I checked another bearing and have the same results, so the problem is the rod. Almost looks like this is a reject rod from the factory. Using plastigage and torqueing the bolts have the correct clearance. I guess it's nice to have the bearings even in the rod, and cap, but what does it hurt? What do you folks think of this? Phil Martin
Do you have the bearing so the i guess call it notch fits in the notch on rod?
stan's52
Bearings have the notch, and they fit the rod, and cap fine. stan
kencombs
Probably been worked on before after it spun a rod bearing, or wore one out so bad that the rod was egg shaped. Was common (still is) to mill some material off the rod and/or cap, bolt together and resize on a rod hone. But no QC on the actual center line as a result of the rework.
