i just got a new battery today cause the other one had couldnt hold a load. i test my alternator set by starting the truck and disconnecting the main neg. so that why the alternator was running the truck by it die right away. i has a delco si 10 63 amp alt. it is set up the way it is suppose to. terminal 2 is jumped to the battery term. and terminal 1 goes to a dummy light/ fuse and then to the ignition switch, out of the switch and to the battery. so if this is right? how do i tell if the alt. is bad?

Looking at the 4th photo, it looks as if you have 1 wire coming from the alt.

I believe there should be 3 wires. A heavy gauge to the battery, another

medium gauge wire for "R", and another for for "F".

Has been some time since I worked on a GM.

the two small wires, 'f' and 'r' can be tied together as they are in modern cars to the ignition switch. I wired mine the same way your is and the small wire to the battery kept the alternator active when engine not running, thusly draining the battey. tied them together to the ignition switch and all is well.
