Another member suggested i try this section instead so here goes, hope to get more responses!

Hello everyone, nice to be here, good to see all the fellow fans! I have a '54 Fargo that i have owned since i was 14. I redid all the original Brakes, steering, and front suspension, painted it '70 Purple, installed '69 challenger ralleys and some other minor mods. It sports a V8 that has proven to be next to impossible to find parts for and drove it to my Grad and several others. Now i am 32 now and it has sat for 10years . So my thoughts now are to remove the body and start all over, I would like to know if someone out there has allready figured out what newer chassis with IFS, power steering, disc brakes etc. will fit under it without having to build a new chassis from scratch. i have bought a '94 Dodge shortbox that i was going to use as a donor but things don't look good for using it. Can anyone help?

I must say I'm curious what type of small block you have thats hard to find parts for. 273 318 340 360 you should be good to go with any of those.

Sounds like you've got a long history with this truck. That's awesome.

I've heard of guys using Dakota's or even S-10's for chassis' under Pilot-House trucks. I don't know how much difference your '54 would be, but if you look around, and do some measuring, I'm sure you'll find something.

Also, you might try http://www.dodgeclassictrucks.com/ They have a little more info on your year truck.

Don't think I'm kicking you out of here. I'd love to hear how your project progresses. And there are several members who have vehicles that don't exactly match the Pilot-House era, or P15/D24 era, but they are accepted here without prejudice. And since there are still several common components between all of the Mopar vehicles through the late 50's, you'll still be able to get a lot of help from this bunch.

Good luck with your project, and I hope to keep hearing from you on your progress.

Merle

Not any of those model engines, not 100% sure what it is, very wide block, have been told it is a 313 by some, some say 318 "wideblock". i am going to take a few picks and see if i can find where i wrote the numbers i took from it way back when. i know when i was looking for a water pump i had to send it to Winnepeg to have it rebuilt, Which lasted a week and was leaking again! Anyway would rather use something more conventional and sell this one. Thanks for the reply,

I know the v8 you are talking about. Its the poly 318. The rocker covers have scallops or waves on them. Should be able to find parts. I know someone working on a street rod 45wc and he is using one of them.

Never heard of a chrysler 315 engine. There were the two 318 engines. One was a big block and the other was the newer small block.

Yeah man...in 57 and 58 the trucks could be ordered with a 315 Poly V-8. (semi hemI) In 56 they were 269's and in 55 they were 259's and in 54 they were 241's. I have 315's in my 57 1 ton and another in my 58 Sweptside.

Look here.

Those were all v8s. The 241 was both a poly and hemi size. In the dodge cars it went to 270 next which was also a poly and hemi. The 56 plymouth got the 270 too but in poly only. Not sure if those truck engines came both ways.

I sold my 55 dodge with the 270 hemi. Would have been a sweet ride.
