I am a retired Air Force Jet pilot I began my 25 year of service flying over 300 combat missions in Vetmam in a B57b dive bomber with the 35 Tacital Fighter Wing.  I flew commerical air lines for a while after retiring but was to dull. I am currently serving in my third term as a County Commissioner.

Interesting story. What years were you in Nam? I spent 9 months at Ben Hoa air base as an Army wheeled vehicle mechainc in 67-68. I ave a couple of friends here in the Boro who also flew in Nam.

Dudford, you might want to PM member Dan Hiebert who is a deputy chief US Border Patrol Agent, you might have something in common.  Looks like your agency is a combination of US Customs and Immagration Enforcement and Border Patrol, and maybe a bit of US Coast Gaurd combines.

Yeah Greg, Been working for the Home Office 7 years now.  I got 5 years working in Immigration under my belt then decised to switch to working on the London 2012 Olympic games, mainly intel, and now I'm in another unit of the UKBA. 

 

All I can say is, it pays the bills, supports a family and I get to pursue my passion with old vintage cars!

I've had no luck posting or PMing this afternoon, so this is a test post to see if things are working again.

 

However, your occupation reminded me of the time in 2006 when Lady Michelle and I were walking down Bath Road near Heathrow when I stopped to take a photo of an unusual car in the parking lot of an unmarked office building. Seconds later we were escorted into the foyer by a security guard and subject to a serious but not harsh investigation by an official.  Turns out we had strayed onto Home Office property and they take an extremely dim view of photography anywhere near same.

 

One question he asked was interesting... When we were the purpose of our visit in London (spectating at the London to Brighton Vintage Car Run) the follow-up question was "What direction do the cars travel as they leave London?", clearly looking for evidence of our actual knowledge of the event.

Can't speak for that officer or your misadventure.  The answer would be south, anything but south and you'd be in the detention centre LOL :blink:

My first job I guess was on the dairy that we had till I was 18 (age 7-18). When I got out of high school we sold the dairy and I went to work as an Ironworker for local 135 till things got bad in that industry about 1983. In 1983 I went to work for National Oilwell in the corporate office over seeing all the moves within the company world wide, ordered all the reprograph machines world wide. I did all the reprograph copying for the company as well. Took over their stored records department in addition to the other jobs I preformed. In 2005 I came down with Guilden Bree' a nerve disorder which left me in the hospital for a while. I couldn't drive for over 3 1/2 years after I got out of the hospital. I couldn't go back to work so the company took good care of me and got me my SS disabilty a long with my doctors. So now I get my retirement from the Ironworkers and draw SS disability. My job now is getting the grandsons up in the morning and taking the youngest one that has CP to his therapy 4 days a week in the mornings and drop him off at school at noon. Turn around and pick his brother up from school at 3:30 and get back home by 4 to get the three year old off the school bus. So I guess you could call me a transportator. The only time I have to work on my two 48 plymouths is after 4:30 and on the weekends when I am not needed doing other things around the house or helping family member with their projects. I have been blessed just being alive.

Grady.......sometimes around here, being a County Commissioner can get kinda exciting.  They had several go-rounds with

our recently defeated (in the last election) county sheriff about several different topics.  They appeared on the local

news numerous times.

Been driving a truck for almost 14 years. 48 continental and Can. Haven't been to Canada since 9/11. I deliver water heaters, new furniture to warehouses, and new custom cabinets/parts, mainly. Nothing glamorous like a lot of y'all... Just doing what I can to raise my family. I'm usually home weekends dividing my time between the 51 meadowbrook, 45 Farmall A, '86 GMC K-3500, and model railroad. I want to send out a big THANK YOU! To all the Veterans! Thank YOU for you service and sacrifice! Matthew

I work in a medium-sized shipyard and am responsible for scheduling all of the available manpower to make sure that all jobs are completed in time. We work on most of the tugboats, ferry boats, barges, and Army and Coast Guard ships in the SF Bay area, as well as vessels that come to us from San Diego to Alaska.

Thought I should update my original reply.  I've been at the shipyard for 10 years now, and it is bigger than ever.  We've bought a ranch in Galt that we will eventually retire to, and the 47 lives there now.  Our daughter is going for her Master's degree in Education; when she gets it we might retire, sell the condo and move to Galt.

 We retired when North Alabama went wet.

 

But boy did everyone that ever recorded a song or album in Muscle Shoals come have a drink in our Private Club it was Called Club 13 and our 2 other beer Joints.From Skynard to the Stones and Hank Williams Senior to Wilson Pickett it covered the whole Gambit!! the 1940's thru 1970's was beyond words.
