Moulding clips

Hi,

while I am looking for the clips for the chrome strips for a while (never had one as the stainless came without any) I saw on ebay an add for Moulding clips.

"You are buying ten (10) NOS Auveco fasteners. They are body belt moulding clips for 1946 1947 1948 1949 1950 Plymouth passenger cars. These clips are 1.187" x 1.060".

"

From : http://stores.ebay.com/Fasteners-Plus

My questions :

Are these the clips that would be used for the stainless that is over the hood, doors etc?

Or are these for the two stainless strips that goes on the rockers (under the door etc).

If these are correct, anyone knows how many of these would be needed?

$22.50 for 10 is not exactly cheap.

John

John,

That link is to the sellers store with all his clips listed. No one can tell which clips you are looking at. Maybe post a direct link to the actual clips you're looking at and someone can help.

The first two are for the side and door mouldings.....guess they work on the hood also.

In the second pic, the one on the right....like a letter H.....will also work on side trim.

And these universal wire clips (#3) will work on side trim as well.

Front fender trim uses both of these.....center and offset (#4)

The center piece for the hood needs this style....you bend the end of the flat part to hold it in place (#5). Left one is broken off.

Last is a pic of a front fender trim piece with the offset clip still in place...click on link to view in PhotoBucket.....http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v96/BobT3/Petey%20Plymouth%202/Plymouth%20Parts%20pics/100_4144.jpg

You have to have clips with the stud/nut at each end of the trim piece to secure them, then the pop in clips in between.

thanks for the post/source

their online site shows very little that could be utilized for the older car...(molding clips was searched out) they are also not listed for model/year application although the maker may be listed.  The site would be better if search engine was bit more tweaked or even if they showed the dimension such as some companies do.  The paper catalog may be better avenue of search...may order a catalog for reference

this is their entire online catalog    quick reference index starts in the thumbnail section page 780 and up I think or thereabout  http://www.auveco.com/OnlineCatalog/index.html#?page=0

They don't have everything for everything. A lot of pieces for the newer cars, imports as well and interchange by part number. I've found pieces I could use on a mid 60's car I was doing and for an early 70's of my own. Between them, Restoration Specialties, McMaster and Fastenal, a lot of hard to find pieces can be found.

It would probably be worth checking out a body shop near you, especially one that has been around for awhile. You never know, they might have old clips that they havent used for a long time that they would be willing to part with for very cheap
