Joe Flanagan
I'm looking at the Brillman Co.'s web page and they show what they call "tracer wire." It differs from the solid colored wire in that it's got little lines of red or black running through it. What's the difference? Why "tracer wire?" hkestes41
Joe, If I'm not mistaken that is the only difference, just the small colored "tracers" funning through the woven covering. Brillmans has a lot of interesting products.
Joe Flanagan
Yeah, they sure do. I thought they carried only wire but there's some really neat stuff. One of those vendors where you're tempted to buy stuff you don't even need.

Here is my guess as to why they have tracer wire ; After you use up all of the primary colors and then you need to mark more wires , how do you mark them ? Tracer wires . greg g
Yep once you get more tha ten circuits, the tracer wire is a further identifier in a wiring harness green with white, yellow with red. black with green, black with white, black with oak, are some colors used in my studebaker harness. Hey Greg, I was wiring the hawk and they asked me to look for the red with green tracer. I could not find it. I took the whole wire harness out the car and sat in my basement floor looking for these wires. I finally got the notion to "clean" the wires low and behold it all was clear. if the wires are not clean you ain't gonna see any tracers lines. I wired my dash in the basement then took it to the car and installed it. I don't think I could have dne it while the dash was in the car. desoto1939
I have been told that the numnber of tracers in the cloth wire was also an indicator of the wire gage. rich hartung
