Santa stopped by last night

This morning, I was escorted out to my garage to see what Santa had left, and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a freshly built 355 CI SBC from Jensen Technologies in Nescopeck, PA. Yes, my friends, that's what will be powering my P15 when I finally get it finished. And yes, I realize I will be accused of Mopar blasphemy, and probably tarred & feathered, and burned at the stake, banned from the forum, etc. All that is OK. I'm a big boy, and I can handle all the criticism that will undoubtedly be directed to me. You see, I think the P15 is a great automobile, and a P15 was my first car. But early on, based on personal experience with the flatheads, I vowed that one day, I would own a P15 that had an engine transplant. And since I am also a Chevy fan, the decision was that a SBC would be the powerplant for my car. I'm thrilled with the gift that my family presented me with, and looking forward to the day that my Plymouth will be on the road. I fully intend to continue to participate in this great forum despite the probable uproar. And when the smoke clears, I still hope to have the opportunity to finally meet some of the terrific folks here who have helped me out with my project. OK gentlemen, load your weapons, and commence firing.

I had the exact same sentiments as you re: a non Mopar transplant. P15 was also my first car. I've had four now. The last two were chebby transplants. They are bulletproof and speed equipment can be obtained without mortgaging the house and selling your 1st born child. It is reliable and I would drive it anywhere. I was little cautious about the air conditioning in the summertime here in the Central Valley of California, but since I've put a Walker radiator it has been smooth sailing. I've never felt like an outcast on this forum and I hope I never do. I respect the opinions of all of the forum members here. But remember they are just opinions and some are more opinionated than others. I think most of the forum members are mature enough to have a live and let live attitude. I don't post a lot but when I can answer a question re: Chebbys I usually try to jump in. Enjoy the small block and Merry Christmas to you and all the forum members. George

Tim,

Considered that, but not sure of my ability to successfully build an engine. I consider myself a fair mechanic, but probably a better electrician/electronics sort of guy . But my family provided an unexpected solution to the engine issue. :D But besides the engine issue, I've been truly enjoying myself working on my P15. I've completely rewired it, purchased a disc brake conversion kit, and shock relocation kit from Old Daddy, swapped out the rear, etc. The P15 has become my hobby, and I truly enjoy it. I've wanted to do this for quite sometime, and realized that if I ever hope to complete a project like this, I had better get moving. (I'm 61 years old). I guess it's number one on my "Bucket List". As it turns out, the engine builder is local, and is nationally recognized as an expert high performance engine builder. I had considered contacting him, but thought he would be out of my price range. Turns out, he was able to offer a reasonable price to my family for a completely rebuilt engine. Fortunately, my daughter's companion is a Chevy guy who did the legwork, and spec'd out a suitable engine for my P15. I'm thrilled with this whole deal, and consider myself one lucky guy, indeed.:D

you are miles ahead "knowing your limitations" ...many cars get abandoned when it soon become above ones ability, access to shop and tools or money to throw at the project..what you doing on the computer..get out to the shop now...lol

I'm piddling at best today on a coupleitems for two different cars..all get to get done, neither involves a deep process..physically or mentally..

My family is from Bloom so I think I know who you went to for the engine. ;) I know it will give you all you want. I know the feeling I was a die hard GMC man for years. The reason my first is a D24 is that the price was right. Rebuiding it yourself is rewarding, but getting it right is more important. Anytime you think you may not handle it, look for a professional. Since most of my family are either retired or still working grease monkeys, I am the blacksheep:o, I ever get stuck I CALL!

While I like to go original if I can, I can appreciate runners also having altered my first truck, 1970 GMC, beyond all recognition.

I get up there for my family reunion in August if I have time would enjoy seeing your baby.

Great gift, what a nice thing for your family to do. Great choice for an engine, dependable, affordable, easy to work on. Good bang for the buck---- another one saved from the crusher......have fun!!

like bebop said, better that you build it how you like it then have the crusher get at it...Congrats on the engine! I will like a free engine too! any make!!!!:D

Look forward to it. I'll put it on the list. You are building the best of all worlds a Mopar mated with GM product.:P I wil probably be along with my father. I am getting him involved in the hobby. Just picked up a 53 Chevy truck for him to play with. :) See you then.

What bothers me is this way of thinking, These engines are no more reliable or easier to work on that any other. cheaper only because their are 40 billion of the things. if you must make a stupid comment just say there are more of them available there for cost is cheaper. not bashing just saying!:D
