Normspeed
I notice lately that I can pull the key out of the ignition when the engine is running, like on the old Chevys. I figure it's either a gunked up set of tumblers or very worn tumblers. I have several ignition keys and it does the same with all the keys. Has anyone else run into this, and any suggestions on a cure, short of replacing the switch?
Plymouthy Adams
have you tried just any ole key..could be the PO removed all tumblers..
Don Coatney
have you tried just any ole key..could be the PO removed all tumblers.. I did that once on an this old shoebox ford I had as a kid. The keys I had did not work so I took a hacksaw and cut the top of the switch lock off. After I did that any key or screwdriver would work. norrism1
Normspeed, I remember dad starting the car / truck and removing the key. Didn't have the retention feature newer ignitions have now. I remember doing it in my 61 Galaxy and both 68 Ply Belveders'.
james curl
On my 55 chevy pick up you can remove the key while running, but you can not turn it off or on with out a key.
Normspeed
My old 55 Chevy was like that. But on my P24 the key used to stay in until switched off, so I suspect something is either worn out or gunked up.
