John Mulders
While I am getting the dashboard put together I ran into the following. The high beam indicator has no lens on top and I though I remembered in the forum some threads on this. I thought some had bought a plastic bead and glued that on top. I had the same intention and my wife got me a nice shiny blue bead. Just to ensure there is light coming through I get a flashlight and covered the glass so only light would go through the high beam indicator. Much to my surprise I saw a red light (instead of normal white). So it seems there is already something that changes the color to red. - if the light is already made red is there something supoposed to cover the tiny hole on top of the high beam indicator. - is it supposed to be red anyway? Nowadays the high beam indicators are blue. Any suggestions etc appreciated! John
BobT-47P15
John.....you are lucky.....your indicator still has the red thing inside. Many do not after all these years. It is supposed to be red, not blue. (You could use blue or any other color you like.....if you want to, I guess.) There is also supposed to be a "hole" in the chrome piece....as the red is recessed. Aside from the rather pitted condition, the item is correct.
John Mulders
Thanks Bob, I can always decide to put the blue dot on later then. All chrome in the car is pitted. Let's say it her character John
Guest mikeys toy
I couldn't find one on my '53..... was this an option?
Young Ed
Your 53 has it built into the speedometer. The little dots under the lines light up. One is green for signals(I believe left) and the other is red for high beams.
David Maxwell
...in the brights bezel but that the inside of the shaft was painted with a bright red paint. Because I have never seen one that had anything in it that could be verified as original and I've never seen any literature stating that there was something it them, it may just be that this red paint was enough to make the light glow red. That might explain John's experience with his brights indicator.
David Maxwell
If you have, would you tell us if the interior was painted red or if there was in fact some sort of insert? Thanks!
John Mulders
Hi David, Not sure what color my interior was originally. I checked the bezel. - I don't see any bright paint inside or top - on the top it seems there is something reddish. - on the outside of the bezel (on the square part) there is a tiny dot/hole. Measured that the inside depth ends there. - it is not a open connection so I think there must be an insert. Hope this helps. John
