Guest cherok62
Hello, Have 51 Dodge Pickup with Volare subframe. Install is complete and now I need information on adapting the Volare column to the steering gear. Problem is with the location of the column in original dash. It is several inches too high to mate with the original Volare steering gear. AJR wrote article on doing this swap but did not say which column he used. Several others have done this swap, what did you do for a column and how did you adapt it? ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Norm's Coupe
Don't know if this will be of any help or not, but you might want to check it out. Sometime within about the last 3 issues of Rod & Custom they had an article that showed a knuckle type adapter for the problem you have. You might want to check some of their back issues within that time frame. It was being installed in a car, but should work in trucks too. PatS....
I beleive Chrysler was still using GM columns at that time, so you could try a longer GM column. There are also floor mounts for the column to go through the floor so you could maybe move the lower part of the column to line up with the box and have it go through one of these units http://www.cadvision.com/blanchas/54pontiac/st-col.html
Rich Gengo
I didn't use a Volare front end in mine but I put in a Flaming River column. They have all different joints and shafts that would probably hook you up.
