Guest MotelCambodia
Hi all, I have 1948 dodge 1.5 ton truck. It has the flat head 6 .I can put my finger in the oil drain and feel the oil pump pick up. It moves up and down . Is that normal? I dont remember if I pulled off the oil pan 8 years ago to look at the same thing. If some one knows NOT GUESSING does the pick up float in the oil and move up and down? Please reply if you know for sure about the truck motors and have seen this or know about it. Thanks
greg g
Taken from Don Coatney's album, this pic shows the pickup strainer which doesn't really float but can move up and down with the level of oil as it is retained on a pivot by the cotter pin. The engine is upside down in the pic and were it righted the strainer would be hanging at the other angle. Can't imagine the truck engines are different, and on the two car engines I have taken apart the pickup was the same but in different positions based on oil pan design.
