  1. Hey all just joined, about to buy a 1948 special deluxe police model, it looks really clean no rust CA car, its been updated to a 12v system and a th350 trans anything i should specifically look for on these cars. Still has the original motor, and police equipment. Thank you all in advance! Edit: car appears super clean, has won some local car shows, only reported issue is windshield wipers not working.
  2. I was directed here from the aaca forums and figured id start a thread about my project here and see what the pros think. I found an old car on kijiji not too far away from me so I bought it off the old guy for $2500 but he gave me $100 back for family discount lol. For being a 70 year old car the body is in great shape with only rusty floors and a bit where the trunk seal went. The little ive had it running from gas in the carb the engine runs and starts really good so not touching the ignition system but I have ordered a new fuel pump and when it gets here will make sure the lines aren't clogged and all gross. And I got some oil filters so I can change it a few times and drive it over summer. Got other things to fix but need time and money first.
  3. I am attempting to identify a correct Auto-Lite generator for my 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe (P-12). As I do not have the old one (it's a long story), I researched the specs and determined that it should be an Auto-Lite GDZ-4801-B. I have been unable to find this model but have found several with the GDZ-4801-A part number and other letters. Does anyone have a reference explaining what the letter means at the end of the Auto-Lite part number? Or, even more specifically, the difference between the A and B versions of this generator and whether the A version can be used in this vehicle? I reviewed several Auto-Lite references posted on this forum but none seem to explain the foregoing. Thanks!
  4. 1949 Plymouth Spec Dlx, have had an intermittent leak for a week. I could see the shine around the bottom of the engine but could not find where it was coming from. First thought it was the fuel pump for various reasons, but the clear liquid did not smell like gas, while checking the oil I just found this clump of yellow crystal-like residue “growing” on the freeze plug. Most likely the source of my leak but what on earth is the build up on the engine?? do I have to pull the engine to replace the plug? more info: I installed a new (modern) 3 core radiator earlier this summer as I was constantly overheating, it solved the problem but my buddy thinks it may be putting too much pressure on the cooling system. Could that be the reason for the leaky freeze plug and the residue?
  5. My first hobby is photography. My son, Jacob, decided at age 14 that he wanted 'an old car' when it came time to drive. I searched around and found this 1950 P20 Special DeLuxe Club Coupe that had been restored two owners ago. The previous owner bought it from the prior's estate. The PO had the bumpers rechromed, found some trim, redid steering tie rods, and a few other things. I've primarily just been doing maintenance, but Jacob is starting a Scarebird Disc Brake install real soon. I don't know why I haven't taken the time to take a photo of the car -- perhaps all the time my wife's kitchen remodel is taking? That project started at the same time we got the Plymouth -- hmm. Anyway, yesterday, 4 July 2017, I finished repairing the parking brake and then asked my youngest daughter to put on a dress and we headed out to take some photos. I started at local college campus but got run off by security. Headed to a park that has an ancient stone gazebo, but being a national holiday, the park was overrun with people. Decided I would head down to this pull off across the river as it has a place without any time telling details. Favorite shot of the youngest daughter with the Plymouth.
  6. I have an all original 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe Convertible. What is the correct type brake fluid to use in my car? I'm about to add fluid and bleed the brake system but I want to make sure I'm using the correct type fluid.
  7. I have a 48 Plymouth and when I pushed on the clutch and the pedal doesn't come back up at all. Have been messing with it for a couple weeks but can't seem to find the problem. Been looking for springs that might of broke off but I can't find it. Any help or guidance will be great. Thank you
  8. Hello everyone, I am new to this forum as I have never owned a Plymouth, but I recently find myself in a position in which I soon may. I am a mechanic / collision tech by trade, so I know what I am getting in to. A little background regarding the issue: My father-in-law wants to get rid of his 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe 4-Door. He wants my wife to purchase the vehicle as she has a sentimental attachment to it. She wants it, but we have no idea what it is worth and he wants her to to come up with a fair market price. There is limited information online regarding the sale prices of these vehicles, so I am asking all the experts to put a valuation on the vehicle. The vehicle: Complete and original - except paint which is not good. Body is in good shape - Minimal damage and/or rust. It has been parked in an old garage for the last 10-15 years. It ran when parked, but hasn't since. Not to say that it wouldn't with fresh fluids and some work. The interior is pretty well destroyed. One could assume that it would cost $1000 to get it running and driving safely. i.e, new brakes, wheel cylinders, brake lines, fluids, fuel pump, carb rebuild, plugs, etc. I appreciate any help that readers could provide. Thanks
  9. From the album: Magazine Ads

A couple of my favorite adverts, framed them in barn wood to take to shows The tan car ad is 1946, the red I believe to be from 48
  10. Sorry to ask this,I tried to search for this first. I am about to rewire the 48 to full 12v. I'm curious if a power driver seat is common in these cars. I also searched the net couldn't really find info on it.
  11. Does anyone on here have or know someone who would be willing to sell a rear hub for a 1946 plymouth. I cannot find this thing anywhere.
  12. I have a 1950 P20 Special Deluxe convertible. If you could do me a favor and post a picture of the clutch linkage that attaches to the engine or transmission I would greatly appreciate it. We can't figure out how it goes back on. We took pictures of the disassembly but must have missed this detail. If you look under the starter there should be a bracket that goes into the clutch arm. I have the bracket. Any pictures would be a great help.
  13. Anyone have some information on converting my 6V positive ground to a 12V positive ground? It would just make it easier to jump when the occasion arises. Thanks!
