  1. I'm brand new here, thanks for letting me join! I've been gifted a disassembled 58 D100 Dodge truck. I know nothing about these trucks. It has a 315 v8 in it. Would this truck be considered a "pilothouse" truck. What other names are these trucks known as? I don't know what a p15 or d24 is. What sources are there for finding parts? Sheet metal? Rubber parts? Upgrades? Other forums or groups? One of my first thoughts is to put a 4 BT or even a 318 into it to make parts more easily available. What other drivetrain swaps have folks done? I know a lot of purists hate hearing those ideas but having worked on several "rare" trucks the constant hunt for parts or fabrication gets old. I'm this trucks chance to get back on the road and I'm not afraid to modernize for comfort and safety.... not to mention driveability. Please respond to any or all of my questions... thanks in advance.
  2. Hi all, I just picked up a '50 Deluxe "fastback", or P19 fastback if my research is correct (please correct me if I'm not). The car has sat in a barn for the last eight years, and before that it looks like it was a daily driver/old fashioned days parade type car, in other words, NOT too well cared for or properly maintained. Mechanically I almost have it running--changed fluids, filed points, new plugs, new fuel pump, new wires, and going to change fuel lines too soon. The rear brake drums were locked up but I got them off yesterday and was able to get it on the lift. Getting it up in the air reveal all it's secrets, including some pretty extensive rust that has eaten through most of the body support braces where they extend past the frame rails and approach the rocker panels where they mount up to the body. Sooooo, most of the car is not very well mounted, in other words. I've been scouring the internet for "body braces", "body supports", etc since last evening, and am wondering if replacement parts exist, or whether I'll have to fab it up or have someone else fab it up. Tonight I'll be taking the grinder and wire wheel and giving it and my forearms and working over. Thoughts/suggestions? By the way--I paid $1500 for this. How did I do?

    Newbie

Hi, I'm a newbie here. I joined on a Robin Weathersbee recommendation. I've recently purchased a1950 Dodge Wayfarer 2 door fastback sedan, and should take delivery of it soon. I'll sure I'll be on here a lot, as I will need plenty of advice. Cheers Simon
  5. What's up everyone. This is only my second post. Been lurking for a month or two. Just bought a 51 cambridge as a surprise wedding present for my bride; married exactly one month ago and we drove away from our reception in it. Bought it from a guy at work through our classifieds after striking out trying to find a classic car to borrow or rent for the reception. Ran accross the car and instantly fell in love with it. My wife was thrilled when she finally realized I bought it for her. Anyway, it runs great; purrs like a kitten. I think its got about 48K or 148K milese on it; I don’t think it’s been rebuilt or overhauled, but what do I know. Not original paint, but everything else seems to be original and stock (except 12v light bulbs, new solenoid, plugs and wires, ignition coil, engine oil, etc.). I think it was painted some 6 or 8 years ago. It has a crack in the exhaust manifold. I just had the carb rebuilt, but it’s leaking like a sieve on my exhaust. I’ve read a ton about float height adjustments and such on this forum and my Dad (whose an aircraft a&p mechanic from back in the day) and I are going to tackle that this weekend. We drove around in it all day the day after the wedding visiting family around town and she’s in love with it as much as I am which is awesome. However, she’s already talking crazy talk about upholstery colors, some of which make me dry heave a little; but whatever makes her happy… Short-term goals: - fix carb leak - replace rotor, dist. cap, points & condenser - adjust timing, dwell etc.. - brake shoes, springs and cylinders - oil pan gasket - change transmission and rear-axle oil - replace as much of the bare exposed wiring as I can - compression test on cylinders - flush radiator - fix dash lights (I suspect the old 6v bulbs are still back there or something like that, 6v bulbs were still in the brake light assemblies. Replaced with 12v bulbs and now they’re working - replace cracked ballast resistor Long-term goals: - update upholstery - new wiring harness - address what few rust issues there all. All-in-all, the body and chassis are in great shape and relatively rust free - teardown and overhaul engine - re-chrome a lot of trim - probably a new paint-job while we’re at it
