  1. Hi, Been a little while. My buddy Craig and I finally got moved into our new shop space. It's a 600 or so Sq ft shop in Mountain View CA. It's small but much better than where I was working. At least a car fits inside, under a roof! We're still getting set up. We have some electrical work to do for the welders and compressor. The Dodge is a Wayfarer Business Coupe. It's complete except for the drivetrain. It's missing the engine, transmission and drive shaft. Front floors are shot too. All the trim and other miscellaneous front end parts are in the trunk, except for the hood, that's in the garage. The plan is to take a bunch of parts from a 1997 Jeep Cherokee 2 wheel drive and adapt them to the Dodge. More likely I'll be adapting the Dodge to fit the Jeep parts. Parts from the Jeep that I will use in the Dodge: Engine 4.0L (244ci.) Inline six. Fuel infected and all. Automatic tansmission and shifter cable. Will be adapted to use the column shift for selecting gears. Rear axle. Chrysler 8 1/4" Rear leaf springs I'll adapt or make new spring mounts on the frame. Parking brake system (equalizer box and rear cables) I will adapt the Dodge front cable. Power steering gear box. I don't have a plan for how this will work yet but I would like to have the power steering. HVAC. The entire under dash evaporator box and controls. I'll have to use the passenger side firewall from the Jeep to mount the HVAC to. Gas tank with sender and pump. Some of the gauge guts to make the old Dodge gauges work with the electric sender's from the Jeep. So far the fuel gauge and speedometer. The power brake booster, master cylinder and pedal assembly. The driver's side Jeep firewall will be moved to the Dodge. I will be using most of the Jeep firewall, transmission tunnel and the front portions of the floor pans. I won't be using the Jeep front disc brakes, instead I'll get an after market setup for the Dodge. This will be a long project. I plan to just make it right. The thought behind using as much of the Jeep as possible is that I will be able to service the Dodge almost anywhere. I want to make this my every day car and keep my Ranchero (currently the daily driver) for when I need a pickup. I will post some current pictures too. Thanks, Greg
  2. Hi, I am looking for help with anyone done this engine swap. Measurements of the compartment from the firewall "nitch" to the backside of the radiator cores would be helpful too (my cab with doors is in a body shop) so I can't do this measurement right now, maybe a couple months when my body guy gets to it. I like my Cherokee inline 6 & auto tranny, tough, dependable and could do some hauling, light towing in my 1940 PT-105. So I am thinking on these lines of mounting this drivetrain into this pickup. Also, a modern engine would be best "today" as my daily drive. I would appreciate advise. Thanks, Richie
  3. Hello all. My name is André, and i live in Switzerland. The original 218 engine of my 1947 Plymouth special deluxe is broken. My plan is to install a 230 engine out of a 1950 Dodge with fluid drive, and keep the bellhouse and standart 3-speed transmission of my Plymouth. I 've heard there are problems with flywheel and crankshaft. Does someone knows if this is possible? Thanks in advance
  4. I'm looking at swapping a TH350 into my 52 Dodge Meadowbrook. I have a couple options, I was considering keeping the flathead six and getting an adapter for the TH350. Or, I have a 283 SBC from a 57 bel air I can put in as well. I know what everyone says "dont put an SBC in a mopar blah blah blah" but the thing is kind of a "rat rod" I guess. It was a 4 door that some guys in my club built a long time ago. They made it into a 2 door roadster (no top). It's cool and I got it dirt cheap, so I'm not concerned about keeping it original or all mopar or anything. Just trying to use what I've got in the garage to make it easier on me. The only reason I'm going automatic is I have a bad knee and I've tried driving it around with the 3 on the tree and it's just not worth it for me to be so sore after cruising around town. I'd like to comfortably go longer distances. So, I have a few questions. I've read that putting an auto trans behind the 6 will be horribly slow. And the adapter and flywheel kit for that swap is 800 bucks. So cost and HP have me leaning towards the SBC. I'm wondering if anyone can give advice on either SBC and trans swap, or if anyone has put a automatic behind the flathead 6 and what fabrication is involved with that. I have no idea how the 6 mounts to the frame or anything. It looks like the only mounts are by the bellhousing. Is that right? Thanks!
  5. Hello all, I am new to this forum and new to flathead engines. I have just purchased a 1939 Plymouth P8 Deluxe and getting started on what will no doubt be a learning project. The car is all original and in good shape for its age. I have done some research and found the engine is a 201, 'P8 369589'. I have not heard the engine run but the seller told me it did however he heard what sounded like a rod bearing tapping. I thought I would swap it out for a 230 but am having a very difficult time finding one, so I tried a 218, those are hard to find as well. Just the engine anyway, I have even started looking at other project cars to buy just to get the engine. So - I have been thinking about rebuilding the 201 that is in there. I understand that it can be made a 218 by using a 218 crank and rods. Plus I would bore the cyl out 40 over. I have come across a few websites that I can get these parts from so it seems to get a little more power and since it needs rebuilt this would be about the best way to go. I am not looking at smoking the tires or high speeds, just cruising at about 60-70mph on the weekends down to Galveston. Putt around town here. However this is Texas and it would be great if I could get some AC going on inside. I have researched a place in Houston that advertises they do that sort of stuff. So I am concerned about running a compressor on it as well. Anyway I'm kinda stuck wondering which direction to go, I would like to get a 218 or 230 but if I can get by just doing an overhaul on this engine then it seems the best route. If anyone could offer some advice, will the 201 work for what I need? Is there any 218 or 230 out there? Thank you. Lloyd
