  1. At the risk of asking a previously asked question while I wait for my parts manuals. Is a 3 speed manual transmission in a 1940 P9 2 Dr Plymouth Sedan the same as the transmission in a 1947 Dodge Special Deluxe D25C 4 dr? The same question for the rear axle. The engine I know is a different size but all my research shows any parts for the transmission always list from 40-47 as fitment. I have an opportunity to purchase the 1940 car and am wondering if these major components will be useful as spares. Thank you.
  2. Recently I purchased a super clean Wagoner WT-243-8A Countershaft/Cluster Gear to replace the worn mopar 697823 part in the manual 3 speed of our 46 Plymouth. This completed the list of parts I needed and I'm ready to go back together with it all, UNTIL TODAY'S DISCOVERY sigh.............!! I purchased the new Wagoner 3 speed cluster gear from an ebay seller with a 100% rating, (great guy - and he's good with refunding me on the purchase), but we're trying to figure out what's going on with this Wagoner aftermarket replacement part. Anyway - the Mopar number is 697832, the Wagoner number is WT-243-8A. The part looks NOS, super clean, but on the inside bore of the gear I just noticed this today - up inside the bore of the gear, (about an inch or so inside) there are no oil grooves on both ends and the center bore of the gear doesn't reduce down in the middle section of the gear to provide the ridge on both ends necessary to hold the needle bearings in place...so I not seeing how this Wagoner part could work, looks like the needle bearings would just wash/walk /move around until one moves far enough to get out of the lineup, then your toast ....we're trying to figure out if it's a defect, etc. Only other thing I could possible think of, is if that slightly smaller bore I'm seeing inside the gear, could possible be a .005 thick hardened inner sleeve ?? Both gears measure 1.005 " on the outermost end of the bore openings. Anyone out there experience anything like this before ?? I've attached 2ea pics that show what I'm trying to describe,. on just a single end of each Cluster gear, my original (which shows the groove "which I'm thinking is an oil groove" and then immediately to the inside of the groove you see where the bore reduces down to a smaller diameter,....the smaller diameter runs through the entire mid section of the gear, then you have a repeat of the same oil groove and the bore opens up slightly, again on the opposite end of the gear....the reduction in the center looks to be about .0010, and this gives you an edge for your needle bearings to ride/butt up against, while resting inside the gear between the bore of the gear and the spacer tube. Just wondering if among all the experience here on the forum - someone might have run across this before possible....maybe it's just a defect, a mis-labeled gear...just guessing at this point...but again , I don't see how it could work, and WT-243-8A does appear to be the good interchange number for the Mopar 697823. ???   3. Picked up a really nice 51 Coronet Gyromatic w/ 230 Flathead. I’m 3rd owner, 10K original miles. Looking to put in a Gen 1 hemi and a vintage BW T-85 3 speed column shift.... more or less trying to make it a 50s correct Hot Rod. (Yes... doing up the Flathead is still in consideration ). Question is, will I have to replace the whole column or will the column for the Gyromatic be able to link right up? I’m thinking no as the column for the Gyromatic has R, 1(H&L) & 2(H&L)... and nothing for a 3rd gear. Yup... I’m THAT guy... so my apologies if someone has to explain or revisit AGAIN.   4. Hi, I have a 46 WC 1/2 pickup that used to belong to my great grandpa. The truck has been sitting in a garage since the late 70's so it needs a bit of attention before it can hit the road again, while I'm trying to keep the truck as stock looking as I can, it doesn't have the original engine, instead it has another straight six from a 53 dodge car I believe. So just for fun and a little bit of extra power I'm considering adding a different intake so that I could run 3 single barrel carbs instead of just the one. So what my question is, is do any of you know around how much torque and horsepower the original 3 speed manual can handle? If it's nothing more than factory power I'll just leave the one carb and run the truck the way it is. Thank you
  5. I am working on a 251 to replace the stuck 230 in my 52 dodge pickup. The engine I found is a rebuilt 251 that was in an M-37. I know this is a 25 inch motor instead of the smaller 23 currently installed in the 52. When I got the 251, it didn't come with a starter so I put the 230 starter on it. This is before I realized the 251 could have a different flywheel tooth count. Anyway putting the 230 starter on was no problem and it worked fine - didn't bind up and sounded ok. So is this normal? The M37 that I got this motor out of was an ex brush fire truck from central Oregon. The front mount was welded to the frame instead of bolted. I am betting the M had a 230 originally and it was replaced with the 251 at a later date. The serial number on the block is from a 48 to 49 truck. So I now have a few questions. First - could the 230 flywheel fit on this motor (explaining why the starter didn't get bound up)? The 52 has a three speed fluid drive. Will I be able to bolt the fluid drive to the 251? I'm pretty excited about getting this motor installed it the 52. I fired it off briefly and it sounds really strong. Can't wait to get it cleaned up and ready to go. I have it on a run in stand so it will be easy to work on and get running before being installed. Any help you can provide would be great. Thanks for letting come here and ask questions. The 52 is going to be treated a dropped front axle, new brakes, and a higher geared rear axle. I have not decided what I want to do with the body. For now I just want to get it on the road with a good reliable engine and updated suspension.
