  1. I have a good friend in Pinckneyville. He's always trying to talk me into going to the Thresherman's shindig.. He really enjoys it.
  2. That's probably part of it.. ? Our outhouse was located in the chickenyard. I remember one White Rock rooster that would circle the outhouse when my older brother was in there and then flog the dickens out of him when he came out. Apparently he just didn't like my brother because nobody else had any trouble. It was really funny. Eventually we killed that rooster and Mom made dumplings with him. Mom would always wring chicken's necks but with that particular bird my brother insisted that he have the honor of cutting his head off with a hatchet. I held that tough old rooster while my brother gleefully separated his head from his body. That's what you call a bonding experience.
  3. I was gonna say that most people rip out carpeting and replace it with hardwood but then I actually read the post..
  4. Many people enjoy going to exhibitions of old farm equipment but it's not an interest I share. I grew up on a farm. We got away from that life because of my father's bad health and early demise. My recollection is that farming was hard work rewarded by poverty. I also learned to hate chicken and haven't eaten any in 50 years. Oddly enough I still like beans and biscuits. Go figger.. ?
  5. Just got the info on the tumbler. The part I bought is Locksmart LC14400. I had James snap a pic with a smartphone but haven't received it. James is an absolutely lovely, devoted person with many positive points but his grasp of technology needs attention. He did, however; let me know that the package clearly states it fits 1949-1968 Chrysler. I believe I bought this on the recommendation of someone on this forum. James offered to attempt to install this assembly but he's getting on in years and would likely require extrication service after folding himself in half to access the underdash area. After all his years with the family I wouldn't like to risk causing him discomfort for something that isn't absolutely necessary at this time. Hopefully this information will be helpful. When, and more likely if; I receive the picture I'll be happy to post it. ?
  6. It's easy when you ain't got any..Like me!! ?
  7. I'll post a part number of the tumbler assembly I bought for mine later today. It's at my summer home.. ?
  8. Without knowing exactly which years were compatible would limit the ability to do so. I'd just throw in a universal switch and be done with it.
  9. Not if you're looking specifically for a 1947 Plymouth ignition switch. Or at least I can't find 'em that way. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1312.R2.TR10.TRC2.A0.H0.X194.TRS2&_nkw=1947+plymouth+ignition+switch&_sacat=0 edit to add: This one would probably work but it doesn't show up in a search for a '47 Plymouth switch. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1950-DODGE-NEW-OLD-STOCK-IGNITION-SWITCH-KEY-MOPAR-MADE-IN-USA-49-CHRYCO-DPCD/183710135809?hash=item2ac5fa3601:g:TesAAOSwqctceV8k
  10. My '47 needs an ignition switch, too. I don't have a key but a screwdriver works. I bought a tumbler set but haven't tried to install it yet. There are lots of universal switches on eBay but not much specifically listed for a '47 Plymouth.
  11. C'mon, you know what's wrong with them, they're idiots. ? I gotta modify this post somewhat. Most of the bikers I've always associated with are tattooed. I never liked the idea of the expense or the pain so I never got any. My wife got one back in the late '70's or early '80's. Some guy in Philadelphia put it on her but I can't remember who. He was well-known in that world at that time and put lots of ink on the club guys. Now there are ink slingers everywhere. It doesn't even mean anything anymore. Maybe it never really did.
  12. It sure has me looking at my '40 Plymouth in a different light. Did anyone notice the businesses in the background? There has to be a massage parlor somewhere nearby, or maybe a stockbroker's office ?
  13. I took a leaky tank off one of my cars a couple of years ago, sanded it down, washed it with lacquer thinner, lathered it up with JB Weld, let is set for about a week before putting gas in it, and it lasted a couple of months. It may have started leaking in another spot but I wasn't really interested in looking. If money's short, by all means do whatever it takes but the only sure way to fix a rusted out, leaky gas tank is to replace it. If it's rusted through in one place it'll rust through in another before you know it. And don't sell it to someone else without letting them know what you've done. That's bad karma.?
  14. I spotted this car in a parking lot today. I ain't afraid of no lockjaw!! ?
  15. I never had any luck with JB Weld on gas tanks. I suspect that the expansion and contraction rates differ for the tank and the JB Weld and sooner than you'd like it's leaking again. Never tried Seal All. A buddy just put a Boyd tank in a pickup he redid and it's a thing of beauty. It cost about a third of what my P-15's worth. ?
  16. You're gonna end up spending more on it than it's worth so you may as well be happy. There's nothing wrong with a good old SBC. Good power, parts swapping is easy, you can find them almost anywhere. What's not to like? Well, maybe the oil leaks but what's a little oil drip among friends? ? You're starting out with a nice car, good luck with whatever you choose to do!!
  17. That's a cool car!! Get her running and enjoy the heck out of it!!
  18. It's an H pattern shift. Toward you and up is reverse, directly down from there is 1st, away and up is 2nd and straight down from there is 3rd. Lots of us grew up driving three on the tree. If we were careful it was clutch-optional after taking off in first.
  19. Spending $50k building a $15k car is dumb. Caring about what someone else owns is even dumber. I like 'em both. ?
  20. Those were some good songs.. There was an alternate version of "Running Bear" I liked, too.. "Running bare, through the bushes, mosquitoes playin' a tune on me.." Brings back memories.... Like Charlene Darling said, "That one always makes me cry." ?
  21. We lived through the best and we'll never see the like again.. I'm happy to have those times to look back on. That old service station building was still there last time I was through there 12-15 years ago but it hasn't been in operation for at least 35 years. I need to go by there sometime before it's gone.
  22. Hope this works.. It's pic of the gas station I worked at in high school. This picture was taken before I worked there. It was a Gulf station when I started. Still had a gravel lot out front, though. Crulus, the man in the pic; built a new Sinclair gas station right behind this one and was still operating it when I worked at this one. I got paid $1.00 per hour, worked 20 hours a week, gas was about .30 a gallon, $1.00 a carload at the drive-in, 20 cent burgers, LOTS of good looking girls, a fully stocked machine in the restroom... Man, I had a GREAT time!! ?
