It’s about 95% original paint. There were some holes in the usual places - front of the rockers and behind the front and rear arches where the dirt and water gets trapped. Managed to sympathetically blend the paint with a matched colour. The rest is 70 years old and shines up well when I can be bothered to give it a once over. I’ve had show and magazine featured cars before and this is far more liberating knowing that I don’t have to worry about every knock and scratch. I wasn’t even that worried when someone parked so close to me at the supermarket on the weekend that I could barely get the door open. They must’ve liked the car and wanted a closer look! The image host on this site does make the colour look a lot brighter than it is though. Some before and afters…..

Continued from previous post… Whilst I was in that area, I vacuumed and wiped the trunk (boot) area down as it’s been filled with all sorts of stuff lately. Comes in handy when I don’t want to get the daily driver dirty. Gave under the hood (bonnet) a once over too and Gummi Pfleged the seals and window rubbers. I’ve had that stick for about 15 years - it lasts forever but does a great job keeping the seals supple.

Had a spare hour or so today so thought I would tackle the fuel gauge. Have been getting fluctuations so had a look at the sender to see if I could trace the issue. Gave all the connections a good clean with some wire wool and brass brushes and all seems to be ok.

Happy Easter everyone. Was such a nice day yesterday that I was out for most of the day. Managed to grab a pic whilst it was warming up. Doesn’t look too bad….

Looking for a vintage salvage yard at current location
Ron175 replied to 65bcoda's topic in P15-D24 Forum
This book is over 30 years old and it’s likely that a lot of these yards don’t exist anymore but I’ve attached those listed for Iowa. Might be worth a Google search to see if any are still in business…. -
Watching with interest as this is something I’m looking to do soon. Look forward to seeing your progress.

As far as I know, they are. I contacted them through their site earlier this year and got a reply about a week later. Very helpful and even included the superseding part numbers where applicable. Is there enough time left on the auction to be able to wait?

Not much to report - running great. Been trying to use it as much as I can. Yesterday it was filled with lawnmowers, bags of topsoil and other landscaping equipment, today a visit to the garden centre….

It was all very well organised - drip trays were mandatory! There wasn’t much attention paid to the GM stuff…

Went to a local show this weekend - there was even another flathead 6 in attendance - a ‘49 Dodge truck. Amazing given it was a small town show in England!

I’ve started adding some of this in my tank now that E10 petrol has been brought in. https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-69352-millers-oils-eps-ethanol-protection-fuel-treatment-additive.aspx Might be useless, but time will tell I guess. Might be worth sticking to the premium or super unleaded as most of those over here still have a lot less than 5% ethanol content.

Nice pictures - thanks for sharing. It really is a small world…even though I’m back home in the U.K. now, I spent my college years in northern Maine and travelled all over. Fort Kent, Presque Isle, Bar Harbor, etc. The winters up there were a bit of a shock to me though! Heard lots of stories of many old cars abandoned in the woods up there, but never had the time to really go out looking. Found a couple though. Surely got to be some old Mopars hiding!

Would this work? https://www.c2cfabrication.com/products/1949-52-plymouth-savoy-front-floor-pan-access-panel-left-side-only

I must be an anomaly - under 40, UK.

Apologies for going off topic, but I love this kind of ultra-niche, specialised book. It’s the kind of thing I tell relatives to get me for birthdays and Christmas. They think I’m nuts.

This one was covered in old shellac, but modern fuel with ethanol in will soon dissolve that. I coated the cork in cyanoacrylate (super glue) before installing - hopefully it will be fine.

Managed to find something that I have been looking for for a few years - a NOS, late ‘54, wagon specific, two-wire fuel sender. The fuel gauge was the only thing that wasn’t working and now it does! Gives me a bit more peace of mind when driving. I did have a ‘60 Beetle that used a stick to check the fuel level...

Welcome Chris. I think I’ve seen your car before.. Skip to 05:43.

Buntingford Engine Services - they’re local to me. I put it together.

That’s an odd one. What do you mean when you say ‘collecting’? Is it a pool of oil or a mist? Apart from the oil bath air cleaner, all oil lines etc, are on the other side of the engine....have you got any pictures?

Thanks. I’ve tried a few things with the paint but my objective from the start was not to go overboard with it. I’m not really a fan of ultra-shiny patina paint, especially the clearcoated look. I also wanted it to be very low maintenance. A couple of years ago I tried Gibbs oil, and that worked nicely but it was very expensive over here and now seems impossible to find. Instead I went with a couple of coats of Collinite 476S wax - https://www.collinite.com/product-category/automotive/ I put it last summer and it is very durable. With the springs, the rear is on 2” lowering blocks and I cut the Aerostar springs 1 coil to get it level. It probably looks lower as I went with a 185R15 tyre - it originally ran 6.70 or 7.10 bias plys which apparently convert to a 205/70/15 radial but I was apprehensive of putting such a wide tyre on a narrow rim. I think it looks ok.

Had some problems logging in to my account and realised this thread was in need of an update.... Nothing major done, just some tinkering and tweaking. Sorted a few little niggles and have been enjoying keithb7’s YouTube videos that have prompted me to address a few things (thanks Keith!). Fitted a new water pump as the original was starting to groan, new oil and filter, coolant flush and refill, and a wipe down done, ready for the first drive of the year over the Easter weekend.
