  1. Fellas, I need some help again. I was talking to a guy about my carburetor,(because it was leaking all over the manifold and I need to put a kit in it) and he was saying that it might have been leaking where the linkage goes into the carburetor, and that is not fixable. Is he even close to being correct? I have the one barrel ball and ball. I'm worried that after I put a kit in it'll still leak. Is there any way to tell by looking at it if that area is bad? I already have the carburetor off the truck. I need to get the darn thing rebuilt and put back on so I can move the truck. I do have a backup carburetor which is the exact same one that used to be on my flat fender Power Wagon. But I know that needs a kit as well.
  2. Quick question fellas. Will my truck's tranny accept a PTO? Does anyone have a winch on their truck, front or rear? I know that's mostly a Power Wagon thing; my '55 had an 8k lb. Braden. But I've seen pics of some pilot house cabovers that had rear winches.
  3. Bernbaum is good at sending the wrong parts. I received the wrong brake shoes last year for the rear of my Meadowbrook, and that wasn't the first time they sent the wrong stuff. makes you wonder who's in the warehouse putting things in boxes
  4. Pic 5 (lower brackets) and 9 are still up for grabs. ?
  5. The possible pedal bushing.... I could maybe fit my thumb through it. It's maybe an inch and a half long.
  6. Okay fellas, let's play "what are these parts?" We'll just go pic 1, 2, 3, etc. Continuing to the next post.
  7. Starters, generators, carburetors, distributors, oil baths, oil filter canisters, brackets, oil pumps, flywheel, seals, and a whole bunch of other stuff, some of which I have no idea what they are. I will post pictures of those in a little while to see if you guys can identify them
  8. I sorted through all the parts that came with the truck. Lots of useful things, and a number of useless junk as well. Pretty good score though.
  9. That's my 68 Dodge D-700 sitting there. Poor beast!
  10. Pic 1: passing by the granery. Pic 2: our barn is 1880s.
  11. Pic 1: the sun was coming up behind the bluff and was shooting a beam of light straight up.
  12. Jan. 19, 2019: First big snowfall of the season here in Southeastern Minnesota. Got around 6 inches. First time I've used the John Deere 444 to plow snow since last April. I keep it plugged in, and it starts right up. I installed a good heater about 3 years ago, so the cab gets nice and toasty. It has a 90hp six cylinder diesel. GVW 20,000lbs. The second picture was after I finished plowing. Video to follow soon.
  13. Very nice. Looks good! Before I fab anything I need to sort through all those extra parts I got with the truck. What I need might be in there. ?
  14. When you're downshifting from 4th to 3rd you push in the clutch go to neutral, rev the engine a little bit, push in the clutch again and then shift to third. It's a matter of revving the engine just the right amount.
  15. Jan 16: - Measured the old battery to make sure I get the right size. I also measured what I believe to be the right lengths for the cables. Jotted all that down. I will probably fab my own battery box from scrap material at work. - Removed the fuel filter. Just about got the carb off but didn't have a needle nose pliers with me to remove the cotter pin holding on part of the linkage. I'll finish that up tomorrow. My kit came in the mail today so I hope to tackle that soon as well.
  16. Okay, thank you. I appreciate that. ? Young Ed mentioned the material looks like web belts.... Navy belts is what I remember now so well. I think I might have one or two lying around that I could put to good use. We shall see. ?
  17. Jan 16: The hood straps (to keep the hood from over traveling) are broken. I need to replace them. What kind of material is that? Does someone sell this material?Has anyone else made their own straps out of something they found laying in their garage?
  18. Jan. 16: Removed the crappy battery and wrong size diameter (and very long) cables. I have some questions: Look at picture #2 first. Is there supposed to be a box down inside there to set the battery in? Otherwise the battery seems awful exposed. I only have one clamp-down rod at the moment so the previous owner had a strap to hold the battery down. Also, the negative battery cable running to the starter was routed between the frame and the floorboard which you will see in picture number one (I had already removed the cable at this point). It doesn't seem to me that should be the place to run it. Especially when I replace the old cable with the big 00 cable. It's not going to fit through there without getting pinched. Can someone tell me the right way to route it?
