    Me and the Meadowbrook

Hey fellas got my car running again (it was a faulty fuel pump) and I wanted to start a new thread and leave my engine rebuild thread as something separate. In this thread I'm going to post pics of me and my family's trips/shows/gatherings and anything else fun that we do with the car. Tonight we went out for a cruise over to a neighboring town. It was sunny and 70s here today with hardly a cloud. Perfect evening for a drive. Mostly I drove just 40mph because that's what felt good Its so much fun to drive the old Dodge; our new cars simply have no soul. There's a bunch of shows and gatherings coming up soon around here, we hope to hit all of them. Here's some pics from today: I guess only the first pic is from us being out and about. The other 3 are when we got back home LOL. The back roads around here are really fun, but you have to watch out for deer!

    Me and the Meadowbrook

May 21: Drove the Meadowbrook to work this morning not only because my newer cars aren’t reliable, but also because its more fun. Rained all the way home. Had a sock on the dash to catch the water leaking through. 😂 Will seal up the windshield soon. Stopped at the market for a few groceries.

    We and the Windsor 2018

All the pics are back. Glad you were able to find the problem with the carb/linkage/screw etc. At least we can work on these cars when there's a problem. One of my newer cars the other day started acting up in the worst way. It was shifting really hard, then not at all, speedometer not working, and then finally check engine light came on. It only has 110K. So how do I react to that? I drove something reliable to work instead....my Meadowbrook!!

Looks good man! I wish you luck on getting it running. Glad you’re going to leave the original paint. 😀

    Grinding Gears or Clashing

This is exactly what I do with my car as well.

Sounds good. Post up pics, tell us your story, etc. That's what people want to see/read.

May 17: Drove into town for my son’s spring concert at the school. After that to Kwik Trip for a snack and then an evening cruise. It was a great night, 70s, no clouds, no bugs, no wind. I could’ve kept driving all night. Guess I’ll have to drive it to work again tomorrow morning!

    Cooling System Techie Talk

I’m sure one of the factors was likely yesteryear’s coolant. We all know modern oil is much better than what they had in the 50’s. So the antifreeze probably falls in the same category. I know the coolant in my car is better than, well, yesterday’s coolant let alone anything from decades ago.

May 16: Took a 30 mile cruise this evening after yard work. Filled up in a neighboring town; averaged just over 16mpg this past tank. Final pic is just before I checked the master cylinder fluid level. Driving it to work again tomorrow!

The boss drove his ‘69 Nova to work. It was originally a California car, 307 with a three on the tree, vinyl top and bench seats with cream colored paint. Now it’s a 575 hp 454 five speed with matte black paint, bucket seats and Brembo brakes. He had someone build it for him.

May 16: Drove the Meadowbrook into work again this morning. The sun was coming up at 4:30am, I had the heater on, and I was the only car on the road for most of my 35 miles. The pic is from right before I left work at 9:45am.

    Oil or Hydraulic Fluid

Fleet Farm has it; bought some last fall.

    Nice work!

I figure I’ll be the only one who touches the car before it becomes a lawn ornament LOL

May 15: Right before we left town to head home. About a mile from our house I had to slam on the brakes to avoid a group of 4 deer that decided they would wait until I drove by to cross the road. I was impressed how quickly I stopped. Didn't lock 'em up, but stopped quick. I was only going about 40mph, so that helped. I'll be driving it to work in the morning; 4AM. Looking forward to it.

May 15: Certainly not one of my better pictures, but today I replaced the battery cables and starter to relay cable with the big #0s. Man what a difference in how the car cranks over. About 50% faster, no kidding. I cleaned up all the connections as well. Can't believe I waited this long to get that done, but at least I got them changed out.

    I need 12 Volt

Just replaced my battery cables and starter to relay cable with #0; turns over about 50% faster than it did before; I can hardly believe it. Been meaning to do this for about a year now and finally got around to it. Between the Pertronix kit with the 40,000v coil, my new aluminum heat shield, and a few tips from some fellow forum members on starting the car when its hot, I'm in a good position. Learn something new almost daily on this forum. Who needs 12V?

    Cooling System Techie Talk

Wow Keith, I never thought of all the things you mentioned here. I won't pretend I know any of that engineering. But I do know this. After my engine rebuild I put in Evans waterless coolant into the Meadowbrook, and I haven't looked back. Since there's no water in it, it doesn't corrode the radiator and engine. No need to flush and change it....EVER. And since the boiling point of this stuff is over 375 degrees (which is much much higher than your normal engine temp), its guaranteed to stay in liquid form, which means superior cooling and no overheating. It will never turn to steam (well, at least not in our cars LOL). Its been in my car for a year now, and the radiator looks clean, and I've never had any "hot engine" issues. Does my car's temp increase on a super hot day going uphill? Yep. But only to about 195 degrees (up from the normal 180). Last summer we took it on a long trip when it was 96 degrees (the cowl vent didn't help us much in the cab ) and went up a long hill, and also got stuck in traffic for an idiotic amount of time...temp never exceeded about 195. Yes, this stuff costs $45 a gallon, and you risk losing it all if you have a leak, but I don't worry about any of that. This product has been around for 20 years now, so its been proven. I'd certainly recommend it. One thing is for sure, your car is not going to boil over with this stuff in the cooling system. Might be something you'd want to consider. Oh, btw, my car doesn't have a shroud, either. I don't remember any Mopar I've ever had having a shroud. And I've had a couple dozen different cars and trucks over the years. My big 68 Dodge D-700 (3 ton truck) with an industrial 413 is so well engineered that when its fully warmed up you can grab hold of the valve covers and not get burned (and hang on to them all day if you had to). The cooling system on that truck is a little different. Also has sodium filled exhaust valves, and the coolant lines run through the external oil pump to help keep the oil cool. Anyway, guess I'm done rambling and I got my 2 cents in.

    Meadowbrook Project

Welcome! I'm lovin' your car. This is the best and most helpful site you will find to ask questions. Lots of knowledgeable people here. I have a 51 Meadowbrook myself, and just had the engine rebuilt last year.

6v here too on my 51. No problems whatsoever. My 67 year old halogen headlights outperform my newer cars without a doubt.

Close-up of the blue bells. They look more like purple here. My camera somehow threw off the color. 🙂
