  1. Recently I've watched some really good programs on Henry Ford. As with many people that had great success stories, there is good and bad to be told. He had as many as 9,000 narks out of the 50k that worked for him at the Rouge. He didn't allow any talking, so if a nark heard you talking to a buddy about something outside of work, they'd report you and you could be fired. Ford didn't allow any drinking at his company parties, and only square dancing was allowed. He thought no one would ever need anything more than the Model T, which was why they were so far behind with the Model A. Edsel wanted the A into production long before his dad finally agreed to do so. One of the Dodge brothers was actually VP of Ford motor co. before they split.
  2. 10-1: Warming up for a trip to Fleet Farm for dog food. Took my 2 older kids and my daughter's friend, who had never seen the car before. She loved it and told me the car reminded her of an airplane because of the seatbelts. Pic 2: the Meadowbrook outclasses everything in the parking lot. Had the heater on today.
  3. I have over 10k on the Meadowbrook's engine rebuild. I've used Castrol 10w-30 and Rotella 15w-40. No problems to report. My builder only polished the original camshaft during the rebuild. He said it was within spec and looked good. I don't worry about how long any of it will last. I've driven in severe heat and cold, rain, wind, snow. The car will probably outlast me.
  4. 9-29: At Kwik Trip to clean off buggies from the windshield. A stop at DQ to top off the evening. Meadowbrook ran great. I have a squeaky clutch pedal return spring I'll have to take a look at ?
  5. 9-29: Cruising around town with the kids tonight. Mid-50s for temps. Heater off, but heat from engine just enough to be comfortable. Good news! Winona 7 Theater finally opened up again. Second pic: cruising down 3rd Street.
  6. 9-26: Saturday night after all the activities my daughter and I took a drive to visit my brother and his kids. We went out for a night cruise. I let him drive, which he was more than happy to do. It was nice to ride in the passenger seat. In this picture we had stopped for snacks. That's my brother behind the wheel. Our ride lasted about an hour. After that we sat in the car till about 2am shooting the breeze! I got to bed about 3:30am ? My nephew really likes the car and wants to drive it sometime. He's 12.
  7. 9-26: Wife snapped this pic of me leaving Hidden Trails. She drove the van with the baby riding along. At home after a great day. The Meadowbrook ran flawlessly. 65mph on Hwy 61. We had the chance to climb some pretty decent hills and discovered the new carburetor actually allowed us to hold speed at 1/4 throttle, and gain speed at 1/2 throttle or more. Pretty sweet. Ran just under 180 degrees the whole trip. Thank you Meadowbrook for a peaceful afternoon!!
  8. 9-26: My girls having fun being "towed" ?
  9. 9-26: Another shot of pumpkin assortment. ?
  10. 9-26: I bought a squash that I never even knew existed that's supposed to be good for pies. Can't remember the name of it ?
  11. 9-26: They had a huge assortment of goods. The sileage and manure smells brought back great memories from when my brother worked on a farm about 40 years ago. I would sometimes help him feed calves.
  12. 9-26: On our way out the host took our picture and thanked us for coming. We then traveled only about 4 miles to Hidden Trails Farm for pumpkins, squash, and mums. They had an awesome play area with great activities for the kids, and 4 (yes 4) different corn mazes. We will likely hit the mazes next weekend.
  13. 9-26: I liked this old Ford truck. I believe I had the only Mopar from the 50s, but not the oldest one there. Someone had a 47 Dodge truck on a Durango frame.
  14. 9-26: A view from the front of the property. We were nestled back by oaks that were just starting to turn colors.
  15. 9-26: More winged cars and a beautiful Charger 500.
  16. 9-26: Some winged cars in attendance!
  17. 9-26: Looking downhill where we parked. We're way in the back. ?
  18. 9-26: This old Chevy had great patina that disguised its hot rod innards.
  19. 9-26: They graciously parked me on a flat spot since I need to adjust my e-brake. ? The Challenger shown had the original paint.
  20. 9-26: Standing by my car looking uphill. There were cars up top that spanned that enormous shed, and also more around the corner.
  21. 9-26: This afternoon we actually attended a car show ? It was held on the host's enormous property outside of West Salem, WI. There was maybe 40 cars in attendance at any given time. All donations and proceeds from the food sales went to the local Legion. The host matched the donations. There was a live band as well. It was a lot of fun! There was a lot of people poking their heads into my car. I had a nice conversation with a couple that were very interested in the history of my car. It was great fun chatting with them.
  22. I've done nothing with the manifold. I did look at the instructions again and understand what they're saying; I'm not sure if they meant this for dual carb setups only, as that is what's pictured. My car runs great with the new carb as is, so I'm happy with that. I guess others may have different experiences. I'd like to hear about some of those.
  23. Looks great! I'd leave the flathead in there ?
  24. I like it...but IMO they're asking too much considering the mechanical condition. Even if you can get it to run without slinging oil you can bet on replacing the brakes all the way around, exhaust, carb rebuild, fuel tank and lines, radiator/block flush (minimum), complete tune-up,etc. All fine and dandy (and fun to work on), but not at that price. I've seen running driving cars for that price. Not trying to discourage you, just saying. I'd watch it for a while and offer him 2k. It won't sell for $4500 in that condition.
