  1. Thanks guys, that's given me some good info. A friend of mine is sending me a driveshaft from the States so we will make up a compatible unit from the two. My box is an early one, 83 or 84, I've got a couple of lock up kits on my eBay watch list so I will probably get one of those. TVI cable already ordered, and I did do some reading up on setting it up but I'm still none the wiser! This is my only car so I'm hoping to get the main install done within a week and then worry about the details like speedo over time.
  2. Well I've done it... I've place my order for an adaptor kit from Wilcap, I've bought a 700R4 to go in her too. I'll be going 12v at the same time and if I can just get the folks at Antiqueauto battery to answer my bloody emails I'll be able to buy one of their 12/6 volt batteries to run my six volt gauges/accessories off. To be honest every time I think of this project as a whole it overwhelms me and more than a few times I've considered shelving it and selling the car on without touching it. Can anyone recommend an alternator that'll take the wide belt pulley off my generator? I may be able to run a narrower belt but haven't looked at it too closely yet. Any hints gratefully recieved particularly on making the new prop and how to keep my speedometer working. Please come and join me on my little Facebook group called Fat Fender Ramblings, everything done to the car and the forthcoming pan European road trips will all be on there. Hopefully should be starting this project in about a months time give or take. Hoping to get all the bits together by then. My only concern is finding a prop that'll fit the 700R4 so I can make a complete one that will do the job. Not so easy in the UK.
  3. Hi Earl, not sure if it helps or not. Just looked through my pictures and here's one of my 42 Chrysler and it is behind the carb.
  4. This is a job I need to do on my 42 and I've taken a tentative look, can't see anything in the manual and I need to replace my bulbs. I cannot see how the cluster is attached. Is it likely to be similar to that above?
  5. Can't answer for the Dodge but as my 42 Chrysler is equipped with 3 speed manual with fluid drive I'd assume we share the same carb. Mine is a Ball & Ball Carburetor by Carter. I will endeavour to post a couple of pictures of the identification for you but they are on my phone. Hope this helps. I have also heard them refered to as B&B.
  6. I'm running stock rims with 6.50 / 16 bias belted tyres. No problems, driving at about 65 on the motorways.
  7. Can anyone help me with tyre conversion chart to does anyone know of the equivalent of the 6.50 X 16 tyres? I've come across the tyre chart in previous searches but have yet to find a chart that includes 16 tyres.

  10. This is a topic very close to my heart as this is what I live for. I'm currently getting my 42 ready for a 3000+ mile road trip across Europe from the UK through France to Spain and Portugal. I'd like to share with you guys if I may my last two road trips in my 57 Chevy 210 sedan. The photobucket links cover the purchase, prep and drive from Turkey across Europe back to the UK, for our second European trip you will need to trawl back a little to see the video clips and photos. The 57 was fitted with a stovebolt six and three on the tree and to be honest rating only 20bhp more than my flathead (when it left the factory) could be considered a very similar proposition. With your permission I'd like to share with you the links to my Facebook group (which is now covering the jobs on the Chrysler and will cover our road trip hopefully later this year) and to save you trawling back through two years worth of posts I include links to the original two part photobucket story which is at least in chronological order. Clearly I am currently trying to think of a new name for the group. I do hope you enjoy this, you'll need some time to relax and go through it as there is a lot! We met people and were given access to some small car collections so there are some interesting cars on offer too. As for preparation and modification I find there is none better than constant use. I will be inspecting the important stuff obviously and replace weak parts as required. The one thing I'm planning on doing is a 700R4 conversion in the next month or so. Other than that some servicing and greasing adding an electric fan and constant use there'll be little that I will disturb. From Turkey to Great Britain in a 1957 Chevy and beyond.   11. Well there are a few anomalies there, the hood side moulding is longer than mine, also there is a discrepancy with the topmost front trim piece. It isn't as long as Bob's car. Could be because my car was built in Canada perhaps? I will look closer tomorrow if I get a chance at the rear fenders to see if there is any evidence of previous trim. There is always the possibility that Bob's car had some of its trim "upgraded" over the years.
  12. Also found on the '42 cars too. I'm trying to get mine to demist properly, my drivers side blower motor is very slow so that needs to be replaced. I'm not getting much air through the windshield duct so I'm about to go out and check for damage or leaks, the passenger side motor which supplies air to the windshield is very good. I've also got the All weather air control system.
  13. The Army taught me how to drive in a 4 tonner and as we still had vehicles in service that didn't have syncro in the lower gears I learnt to drive double de clutching. Unfortunately you can't drive a fluid drive like that... Not really tried clutch less except once when my Range Rover lost it's clutch whilst out looking at a classic Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9, that was an interesting drive home.
