  1. Thanks Rich but, I’m looking for shops that folks have actually used with good results. I’ve done a Google search and found several but I hate to use someone that can’t repair or stand behind their work. Hope this makes sense.
  2. Looking for recommendations on speedometer repair shops. My 49 Dodge Wayfarer speedometer is in need of repair. I believe it’s a magnet issue but then I’m not a speedometer repairman. Odometer is functioning correctly in a given mile but the speedometer is not registering right. Thanks for any light anyone can shed on a reputable shop.
  3. My tube was also in good shape but, since I had a new tube that I had already purchased I went ahead and installed the new one. If I hadn’t had the new tube I would have used the old tube over, it had a few light pits but is still in very good shape.
  4. Could very well be a line or a hose that let loose on the system.
  5. 218 and 230 blocks and heads are the same, difference between the 2 is the crankshaft stroke length.
  6. New engine in the engine bay.
  7. Mine also came out without any problem and was in remarkably good shape. I had already bought a new tube in anticipation of the old be severely corroded. Hers a picture of the one I removed, of course I used the new tube on my rebuild.
  8. The original motor or at least the block and crank will be stored away, it will be kept just in case.
  9. New engine ready to go in the Wayfarer
  10. Having found a hairline crack in my engine block in the 49 Wayfarer Convertible I located a complete 49 D30 stamped engine for a replacement. After a total rebuild things are starting to happen.
  11. I have no experience on these old Mopar hinges but I have restored numerous Muscle car era door hinges using bronze bushing to bring the hinges back to life and they have held up very well. I also believe there is quite a bit of weight in the modern car door once they started adding the crash beam inside the doors along with all the power operated features. You would be surprised on how heavy these later era door are compared to these old Mopars. Have you ever removed a door from a 1974 Grand Prix, if you have you know what I’m talking about. It’s a 2 man job, compared to my 49 Wayfarer Convertible door that I can install by myself.
  12. If you find the hole for the hinge pin is worn excessively you can install a bronze bushing and use a new pin.
  13. No trimming is required or advised, when the pan is tightened everything slides into place creating a leak free seal. The end pieces float are left long to allow them to slide and fit tightly into the radius of the oil pan as it tightened down. If the end pieces are cut they won’t wedge themselves and seal properly and most likely leak oil.
  14. If you look at the pan rail gasket on the top in your picture you’ll see an offset. That gasket only fits one way to line up with bolt holes. Whaerever your notch ends up install the other gasket in the same direction
  15. Transmission needs to come out first, leave the bell housing attached to engine then remove as one.
