Hi rex sorry been away from computer for a while i tried looking on gumtree and ebay the two i saw are not there but there is a 48 dodge on the bay at moment in sydney area i think very rough would realy only be good for parts. there is a 48 Plymouth convertabile on gumtree and in justcars website and magazine he had the two other dodges up for sale as far as i know maybe he still has them and has not relisted . He's in Woolsthorpe in vic . Andy sugestions sound good when i had mine recored was 600 dollars plus side was that the cores were still made same size as most tractors from 60's fergies david browns and massey Sorry it a 1947 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/woolsthorpe/cars-vans-utes/1947-other-convertible/1100973760
  3. G,day Rex thats a T J richards body assembled in south Australia on a Canadian chassi running the 25" block so i don't think a plymouth would fit in without modifcation . Most of the body is Prewar with the front sheet metal new as they didnt have a lot of money for retooling after the war. the Plymouth Dodge and Desoto all shared the same body just the grilles and badges are different only other differance i have come across is the rear piece of belt line trim is different mine like yours follows the curve of the body my plymouth is about 6 " shorter and straight . Im in Victoria has been a couple of wrecks on gumtree and e bay in the last few days. Cheers Gareth
  4. Try auto surplus in Melbourne they have a vast amount of spares its where i got my parts for my rebuild Ph (03) 9873366
  5. Will do Tod have found that the pistons in the wheel cylinders have stuck and that the facings on the shoes have let go they have been bonded on so its off to the brake shop for some repairs and new seals as old have had it. Another question what thickness should the new linings be as i don't have a manual for this car and unsure if brake shop records will go that far back . Thanks Gareth
  6. Looks like iv'e fixed the overheating problem siting at 180 at idle at 20 degree day celcius . Whent for a drive and the next issue reared its head Car felt funny to drive and temp went up to 200 so whent back home and jacked up now have found that 3 of the 4 brakes on the car had locked up . So now it time to fix the brakes and try again
  7. Pics of the neck and thermostat modification
  8. Thanks Rich ive printed out a copy and ill take that up with me when i go . At the moment i went to the local parts chain suplier last night found a modern type that is 160 temp it Has a smaller flange so ive machined up a flange to go between the neck and head and will try that this weekend . My neck might be a little different to what is on your american cars as the pictures show that it goes up into the neck ( ie it has a raised hat above flange the internal of my neck has a flat going across the center of the opening and about 3/8 above the flange surface model 30 f is more like what would fit for me as the 60 would foul the casting. Ill post pics of it when get home for reference for anyone and so everyone can understand what im talking about lol Thanks Gareth
  9. Must have as it is the original engine in car i have it is the narrow engine with no water tube the spare motor i have is a out of a 34 model which is a wider block and both necks are the same . My car is a Canada built chassis and Australian Richards body late 33 made .Donald yes the water is going round to fast as i have new water pump and clean radiator when i get thermostat going to get freeze plugs and check block out as well . By reading this forum and talking to old mechanics you certainly require it to regulate to temp until i got a new radiator it ran fine little warmer on hot days but after seeing the condition of the old it must of acted like a restrictor slowing the flow just right.
  10. Looks great i cant wait to be driving my 24 but i think im about a year away hope to finish paint this summer ant then spend the winter doing an interior. I have a 23 tourer as well all original 35 miles is about the best speed have taken it up as fast as it would go .Was scarry as hell as 23 has 3/4 eliptic springs on back everybody asked how the heck do you control it as it bounces all over the road. Your'e right more people give you the thumbs up than a one finger salute.
  11. Thanks Tod Have a day off next week and are going to drive up to them with the info and a bypass neck from another engine see if we cant match something. Hope to be doing a wedding this summer and without one i cant go more than 15 miles without getting too hot.
