  1. There should not be any vacuum or pressure built up in the tank. They are supposed to have vented gas caps. John
  2. I use a plastic milk crate. There are a couple of breaks in it from standing on it, so from time to time my seated position is made most uncomfortable due to its painful pincer movements. I really need to snag another one. My friend has a restaurant so when I need one he gives me one and I exchange the one I have and he returns it with the rest. I also have a couple of metal ones but they're just for lookin at. They are no where near as comfy. Plus of you stand on them on cement and lean forward they have a nasty tendency to slide out from under me. Usually resulting in me doing a faceplant followed by a cascade of profanity John
  3. That's a really great looking truck you have. Welcome to the forum . John
  4. We can get together, order a huge pizza and watch it from our tailgates John
  5. Our trucks were built in a different time. There were no highways and just in general the speeds that they were driven at were much slower. I wish I could find it but a while back I was doing research on posted speed limits during the 40's and I found a page that listed them state by state. If I remember right the average speed limit was 45 to 50. Many states didnt even have a speed limit, it was more of a case of what speed was prudent. The roads were just not designed with high speeds in mind. Personally I have no problem with keeping the brakes, suspension and just my whole truck in general stock but I drive it the way it was intended. I remember what my Dad always told me when he turned the keys to his B1B over to me when I started driving.... "be nice to it, its a senior citizen". He let me drive it every day and it was my daily driver until I got my '69 Charger R/T. I think a lot depends on where you live and the conditions you drive in and of course what your looking for in your truck and how you want to drive it . I live in a small town and outside of town we get from place to place on Hwy 80 which for the most part has a 55 to 65 speed limit. Much of it is lower. We are surrounded by wide open space aka desert and the roads are pretty much flat and straight with a few slight hills and curves here and there thrown in. No bumper to bumper stop and go traffic My B1B has 3:54 gears and is more than capable of traveling 75 or more but but I just stay local. Mechanically it is very sound and all.I will drive to Tombstone or Sierra Vista if I get the hankering and usually no farther not because I cant, but because I think its better to drive my '94 Mazda pickup (Ford Ranger) that Dad left I just drive the speed limit and enjoy every moment of it. I drive it like it was intended and designed . I make sure there is a lot of room between me and the person Im behind which is usually pretty easy to do because Im driving the posted limit (55) and most folks dont. At least until the snowbirds arrive who generally drive 10 to 20 below the speed limit at all times. It is not uncommon for some to drive 25 to 30 in a 55 on HWY 80 . Grrrrrr . I can see why folks would want to update their brakes and front suspension especially if they live in a place or drive in conditions that make it better to have the updated components or just because they want to and can. Me.... Im lucky, the roads in my area aside from I-10 that passes by my town haven't changed much in the past 60+ years so they are just perfect for our trucks . For me a major part of it is the charm of driving it the way it was made right down to the 16" bias ply tires that go bump, bump, bump when they are cold hahaha. If I lived in a bigger city or regularly drove it in a congested conditions or at high speeds I might be inclined to perform some updates too. To me its all about your vision of what you want your truck to be and the conditions that you drive in. John
  6. Paul, Im glad to hear that your surgery went well and that your doing good with your recovery. As for spending time on the computer. Please be careful and don't spend more than a hr or so at a time sitting be it at the PC, in a vehicle ,plane etc without getting up and move around for at least 10 to 15 minutes. It will go a long way towards keeping DVT's / blood clots from forming in your legs. That's how I got mine and ended up with the massive saddle pulmonary embolism that almost did me in. John
  7. John, mine attaches to the front lower manifold stud/bolt. John
  8. I love seeing this kind of thing. Theres nothing like making it a family project !
  9. My wife like it when I am outside working on mine. it keep me out of the way I call mine Papa's Truck. Even thought it isnt the same one he had ,I got it because I loved his truck and it reminds me of my Dad and my son JJ always called him Papa so its "Papa's Truck" Did you ever locate a throttle bellcrank thingie assembly ? I wish I had one, you would be welcome to it. Most of my extra parts other than engine pieces are just small stuff and some of them are for a '52 not a B1B or B2B.
  10. Paul, I hope that the surgery went well. I will be praying for you . John
  11. Wow John, You have been really busy and it looks fantastic! Is your truck the same one that was in the Sierra Vista Craigslist a while back? John
  12. I hate it when things like that happen. You think everything is all set then ... poof Did you get the new clips and get them installed.
  13. John, When my family moved back to Tucson from Arvada CO. in the 70's we towed my Dads B1B behind a big ole Uhaul. My Uncle Jay fabricated a sturdy tow bar mount on the front bumper and it worked great. It was in the winter and there was a lot of snow and ice in the Colorado Springs area. We didn't have any problems at all, it towed great. I also distinctly remember my Uncle disconnecting the governor in that Uhaul too John
  14. I don't know if it is still there or not but they originally had a small metal tag with the ratio stamped into it attached to one of the upper mounting studs that pass thru the third member / pumpkin. John
  15. I spent a few hours weeding our families grave sites. It wasn't much of a workout for my truck but it was a pretty good one for me. 6 Months ago today on friday February 17th which strangely enough was also the 15th "anniversary" of my Dads passing, I suffered what the Drs called a "massive saddle pulmonary embolism". I didnt know what happened, all I knew is I coughed hard and from that moment on I couldnt take two steps without having to fight to breathe. I thought I had strained something in my chest and that it would pass but on Monday it still wasnt any better so my wife made a appt (behind my back ) hahaha for me to see my Dr. the next day and thats when I found out what had happened and I was taken my ambulance to the hospital in Tucson where I was a guest of theirs for a week..Six Drs have told me that with as massive as it was I should have died the second it happened and that "I still had work to do here" and or "God wasn't done with me yet" .Man was I scared,no make that terrified. Now here it is 6 months to the day later and Im doing really really good. Actually within a week of "the event" as my Dr calls it I was doing and feeling pretty darned good. Well except for the Lovenox shots I had to give myself 2x a day in the belly for a few weeks but even that was no big deal I was and am just so happy to be alive. A week ago my Cardiologist told me that the damage to my heart and lungs that he had seen months ago was completely gone and that I was free to do as much as my body will allow, and to listen to what my body is telling me. Then he gave me the ok to stop taking the Coumadin YAYYYYYY ! The only effects I still experience is that some days I feel so tired , a bit dizzy at times and knackered from the get go that about all I can do is rest and lay down. The Dr said thats 100% normal and that is can take from 6 months to a year or two to go away. He said its because of the trauma that my heart and lungs went thru and now my body is spending and using a LOT of energy to heal. Most days I feel pretty darned good. After I got out of the hospital I promised myself that I wasnt going to let "the small stuff irritate me anymore" and that I wasnt going to put of doing things that Ive been wanting to do but always seemed to get pushed aside... like working on my truck. So about 5 1/2 months ago I started doing the bodywork on it one panel at a time. I am or was a bodyman by trade for over 30 yrs so getting past the notion that I had to get it all done at once has been a bit strange. All those years of working on commission and meeting dead lines was kind of a hard habit to break at first but its a lot more fun to take it slow and do one panel at a time. I dont want it to be a chore, I want to enjoy it Anyway I started off by doing little things like restoring a Model 36 heater that I want to install in my truck and also a few dash parts that I believe are for I believe are for a 52 that I cant use but were in really nice shape what with being from the Az desert and all . Just small stuff at first to keep busy. As of late I have done both front fenders, the roof panel, the hood assembly and replaced the left front stake pocket. Along with doing the bodywork I've been stripping each panel because there was a LOT of paint on it . Ive been taking lots of pictures as I go along so I can look back at how it was when its all done. Sorry for the overly long and babbling post. Its a really huge and kind of emotional day for me what with it being 6 months and now Im off all the meds and everything . So very thankful . By the way, about the not whole not let the small stuff irritate me part.... easier said than done. I still get POd at some really stupid insignificant things at times but Im still trying hahaha. Its a work in progress. Again please forgive me for the long winded post. John
  16. You did a great job. I know it was a lot of work but it was worth it, it looks fantastic !!!! John

  19. I got bored and did a quick Google search and the name of the cheese shop . Their website and Facebook page as a few partial photos that have the Pilothouse in it but I couldn't save them and post them. Just as well, they really ..... cheesy pics anyway John
  20. I saw this earlier this week. Its not from a movie, its from a commercial but as soon as I saw it I had to get a pic of it. From what was being discussed in the commercial it appears the truck is located somewhere in Oregon. Nice looking truck, I wish they showed more of it . Again , sorry for the cruddy photo quality, I took it with my phone. John
  21. I saw this a while back on a episode of Classic Tractor Fever. I noticed it was on again so I took a pic . Please excuse the picture quality. I paused the show then took the pics with my phone. John
