  1. I will be there for a while in the am will let you know more as it develops also I said 20 with 393 rear end I meant 293 rear- that yacht has some trorque!!!
  2. Back and forth to Macon from Dublin 120 miles round trip I average 21 mpg at 65 70 w oveerdrive. Hopped up engines or regular stock Odd but my 60 383 ci Desoto 4 door with auto gets 20 mpg on same trip!!!! Maybe a 393 rear has a bit to do with it Lou are u going to city park sat for car show??
  3. remove all loose scale rust etc. clean with mineral spirits then paint with rustolieum rusty metal primer- red. Leave open for 48 or more hours then paint with color of rustouieum of your choice I use grey- I mix black and white to get it . I use paint brush works fine. The go to Middle Ga tools on mlk and ask them where to get pad- I cannot remember name but you can get a 6 ft by 10 foot pad for about $100- will do all of the car . I think it is middle GA industrial supply one block up from Ga tool. Very nice mat. Lou
  4. Boy, I wish I had some to clean up! What? TEEth? Knobs? Or both????
  5. Anyone got any suggestions on how to clean up knobs- choke throttle window handles etrc. I have several that are soiled and or kinda faded or yellowed out Thanks Lou
  6. Anyone got any ideas wher I might find a nos or good used 49 front floor mat? Trying to bring this one back to a really good orginal as if 5 years old!!!
  7. I believe they all run on 45 r- r for sesistor - to help static in raido and so does my 48 ford and my 351 windsor in my mustang Lou
  8. What do you use to see timming mark? I use my eyes without glasses!! Just kidding I usually do not use a light I mark the tdc position turn the crank to the timing mark then set the timing. After that I test it by starting cold hot etc. Also mash gas pedal and see if have hesitation when starts easily and no hesitation I am real close or dead on it LOU
  9. I put it on my 50 plym worked fine however I did not run compressor under load but I have doen the same with the mustang and it is fine here is anothe r pic I made this plate then had a few made they are approximate in location and holes but easly adapted. Keep in mind the belts are thin not the thick. I think it would be necessaty to change belts pulleys on the crank and alt to thin.
  10. On a 200 ci 6 cyl engine in my 65 mustan the crank, fan and a/c compressor all run off the crank then the the alternator is run off the a/c I use this method on my adaptor plate for plym/dodge 230/216 engine
  11. Turn out it is a water problem not sure of extent yet but found water in #6 chamber and it still will not turn with plugs out- lot of work to do
  12. Let my 48 with the 350 sit about 3months went to fire it up it will not turn over. Have done the following removed starter had new gear and bushings installed everything else checked out fine changed batteries hooked starter directly to battery and hot wired solenoid direct also. Starter bumps and sometimes turns it just a bit but then freezes up. Anyone got any suggestions- it is a 350 with 700 trans. I am baffled? Lou
  13. I have a 58 dodge with a 325. It is a poly head- the valve covers are scalloped and narrow. My understanding is that Dodge only made the 325 one year-1958- Is that incorrect? I am curious Lou
  14. my hollander says 50 to 52 plym will interchange. I have one if yours fails
  15. Best bet it to chase the existing threads with right sized dye. However on a 31 A model I could not do that. the threads were worn etc. I got a metric dye and re threaded the axle- cut metric nut cut a slot in it for cotter pin and 18 years later it is still working. Also find out what axles interchange-bet someone has one to replace yours if these methods do not work
  16. post the pic of your speedo screw on end maybe we can find a way around the problem lou also if your speedo end is unique you might send it to a speedo shop and let them put that nut on a new cable lou
  17. I repaired one on a 50 Plymouth- worked fine until I tried to bend it- might as well have taken a bolt cutter to it!! I broke the joint. What I did was coil up the new tubing and the bulb put them in a pot and left about 10 inches sticking out the froze it all night-solid block of ice then did the joining. worked great but I messed it up later Lou PS once tried it with JB weld - did not work
  18. "IF YOU DONT LIKE MY THREADS DONT READ THEM, (PARDON MY LANGUAGE IN THIS CASE, AGAIN IM ENFURIATED)" You know you have given some good advice. I have read your questions observed the responses and also observed the eventual degeneration of the threads as time goes along.Truly disappointing. I hope you build your perfect car. It seems that is what you want, and that is fine. But when you come on here and ask questions - like 230 crank issue and you get some answers from folks who are trying to help why not just say nothing or thanks and do what you were going to do anyway? On a couple of occasions I have contributed to the threads you stated- I did in this one - remember" investigate the engine on e bay"?? Might have saved you some money but you chose another path. Anyway since it appears you want to build a perfect vehicle at rather high cost I cannot help you . I tend more toward the economical approach like most members here. We mostly tend to be hobbyists not champion builders. Also I think I speak for many when I say a lot of us are really interested in finding ways to do things and sharing them with others on this space. You seem more interested in telling us what you are and how much money you have. Thats fine , if you like that. I do not care for it myself. So in the future I shall refrain from responding to any of your questions that way I can let you know I disapprove of your language here and your rather arrogant statements. I am not a great lawyer- it took me 2 times to pass the bar of Ga. but I have made a decent living fro 38 years doing it and enjoying the company of may of my friends here. Anyway good luck to you on your quest hope you find what you need. I would also encourage others who feel as I do not to respond to your questions or tirades-it seems rather non productive. Again Good Luck with your quest for the perfect car. Lo Earle
  19. Just me- get an old inner tube cuat a couple of rectangles about 2 inches by 4 inches put a small slit in the center and put under you rug or mat- works fine fo me
  20. that motor is a 218 i would say since its out of a 48 its not a 230 right? No not right- engines from 34 thru 59/60 will all interchange. The water return neck speaks later, the fanbelt and pullys speak later- I am betting a 230- If it were me I would probably buy that engien and try and get it running- but at the very least I would ask guy for serial number- it could even be a 140 hp 59 engine- Lou
  21. take a look at this engien on e bay- sure looks like a 230- small fanbelt and newer style water neck- get the guy to give you serial numbers- you canthen tell or someone here can - presto crank rods etc - heck it moight even be a great eingine- I bought a 400 buck 48 plym and it ended up having a newly rebuilt motor- might be your answer http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1948-Plymouth-engine-and-transmission_W0QQitemZ170437109195QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item27aed7e5cb Lou Earle
  22. Also what lube are u running- To thin a lube can cause a leak-not usually but I have seen it. Overfilling can be a problem also- hard to do in a plym but it has happened. Was in a Food shop an third and cherry Wednesday- Saw you pull up to light and drive off - really looks greaat Lou
  23. Run your engien on a drive for say 5 /10 miles to get it hot. Then feel of the by pass filter casing- If hot it is working if cold or just barely warm by pass is not opening and probably needs new spring
