  1. Looking for information on where to buy the rubber matting floorboards for a 1949 P15.
  2. Hey P15 fans! anyone know where I can go to get gasket material for all of the windows? Not all of them need it, but it would be a good idea to get enough in case I need it in the future as well. Also, anyone know how to remove aged old oily greasy guck from under the hood? A good solvent or would it be best to hire someone who knows how to detail clean under the hood? thanks for any help!
  3. Hey everyone, I am missing a small piece and I was wondering who might know where I should go? See the attached picture below. It is to go in the back to hold on to since it has no seat belts. I am not even sure what to call it. Anyways, I want the small piece that is missing on one side, but is on the passenger side. I want it to be bake light also to match everything else. Any help would be amazing. Thanks
  4. Hey everyone! Who should I go to to get a nice set of Whitewall Tires for my 49 Plymouth Special Deluxe? I know of Coker, but I was wondering if anyone else had a different place so I can research. Also, my tire size now is Radial 205/75R15. Should I stick with that or can anyone suggest a better riding tire of one with better longevity? Thanks!
  5. Any one know where to shop for an original p15 outside sun visor. I see some of the new ones and while they are nice, it is not the same as an original. Let me know please. Thanks
  6. Hello all of you wonderful P 15 enthusiasts! I have a question and I have looked online with no luck! First off, in my 1949 P15 Plymouth, the back seats have straps attached to the top! Now intone days before seatbelts, I imagine those are for people to hold on to in case they are whipped around while riding! What are those straps called? First off! Second, mine are in good shape but one is missing the piece of Bakelite for the center piece of that device! What would that be called? I need to know so I can search them out online so I can replace the one! Lastly, if anyone knows where I might obtain one, please pass that on as well! Thank you all in advance!
  7. Ok, so my car is amazing and I am loving it. My step son who knows things about cars, and has rebuilt two of his own wanted to know about something weird in the clutch for this car. According to him, remember I know very little about the mechanics of the vehicle, but I am learning, the clutch when depressed releases the spring which allows for quick access to change gears. Once gears are changed and the driver lets off the clutch, the spring stretches again. It is because of this, the clutch sometimes does not release well since the spring is now under duress. He tells me this is backward from most cars where when you press the clutch the spring is stretched and when you let go, the spring decompresses back to the original. He cannot see a way to switch this function. Was this something Chrysler did in P15 models only and change it back in the P18s, or is there a second spring that I should look into purchasing to help alleviate the pressure on the spring so the clutch moves more smooth? Any help like before would be very appreciated. Thank you all for welcoming me to this Forum by the way!
  8. Another question. I need to replace the gas pedal on my car. It measures 9 3/8". It has two holes on the bottom and one hole on the top to fit into the car. The only ones I can find online measure 7 3/8" and only have the hole at the top. The box, which is original after market says it fits 1946 to 1954 Dodge, Plymouth, and Desoto. Can I modify my car to hold this pedal or do I need the longer pedal? Also, if I need the longer pedal, does anyone know where I can purchase one? Thanks
  9. Shel_ny question for you. According to the reference section on this site, the serial numbers start at 120.... For the 1949. For the pic you posted, it says that the serial numbers start at 121.... And that the 1948s stop at 121... Can you or anyone else confirm which is correct? Mine could be a 1948 and AZ state messed up the title. Thanks everyone so far.
  10. Thanks Mark....I will do this for sure. That is so cool. 49Roadster - that is Intersting. While the DMV guy did know to look on the door for the VIN, however, their books might reflect the engine number, who knows. He told me the serial numbers started with 130..... Of course my engine is rebuilt from parts, so it is not the original. Mark, I love that visor on yours, I need to find myself one. Too bad we do not live closer, would love to drive around with you. Thanks again for everyone's help. I will update my post when I am finished with DMV.
  11. Thanks guys - I did not expect a quick response. Sorry - the Serial number is 12066192 which fits nicely into that range for the Special Deluxe. Mark - great car too! Ok, now how can I trace it like Mark did to the day it rolled off the line - that would be cool to know. Captain Neon - thanks, no they will not register it at all - not even as a 48 - otherwise I could care less. I will take this info to them. Lastly, you say it is not valued more, but I was told it was since this body style did not last long before the switch - not a huge amount but more than the typical P18 - is this true? You guys rule! Thank you!
  12. I need help. I just bought my first classic car. It is a 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe. It has the old 1948 body style including Suicide Doors. I was told by the man who I bought it from that it was a 1949. All of the research I have done on the serial number is telling me it is a 1948. The history says that in early 1949 and late '48 they issued models with the old style. I have read two sites that say they are actually models created and branded 1948s and went unsold and so they slapped on a new serial number and created 1949s. Here is my problem. California DMV says it cannot find that serial number with 1949s and they will not register it for me unless I can prove it was a 1949. Can anyone help me find a way to prove it? Here are some pics too - it is a beauty! Thanks!
