  1. Check the rod for straightness, brg for size and that it isn't turned 180 degrees. Undersize should be marked on back of brg shell, both halves. Wouldn't be the first time shells were mismatched. Also, check that the rod cap belongs to that rod.
  2. Pertronix makes point-less conversions that go inside a stock distibutor. About as electronic as you'll get for these engines.
  3. I know I can't make them all in one year. MN will be the first of the three. Gotta get it done before I plan any trips with it.
  4. The grill looks fantstic. Much better with all the stainless in it. The single stainless looked out of place with the two painted ones. Might have looked OK if it had been the bottom one. Nice job on the step too.
  5. I'm planning on several road trips when mine is done. One east, one into MN, one to the west, maybe make the BBQ if it's still going on that year, do the west coast. Won't be this year though.
  6. A 6V starter turns over much faster on 12V and will work fine either pos or neg setup. Used to convert old 6v tractors over to 12v with alt and never had a problem with leaving starter as 6v. Just don't grind on the starter. It'll get hot and throw the solder out of the armature
  7. They're in the mail. Merry Christmas.
  8. I had an old 6 cyl Continental in a forklift that would run on about three when wet and as it dried out would pick up the other cylinders. Also 2 cyl Onan engines that would run on 1, albeit poorly, usually meant they had a head gasket blown.
  9. I'm down to the front bed panel, tailgate and rear fenders although they all will see some repair work. Frame, while mostly there, has had pieces cut off, added onto, boxed, C notched, crossmembers removed, others added in. Even my radiator support bracket has had a change or two. Some of the changes are pretty easy for died -in- the- wool experts to find. Others may need to be pointed out. Still looks like a Pilothouse though.
  10. Sounds like renewed enthusiasm! I know, other things always seem to come first. At least it won't feel like work for a while. Gotta be easier to get trans out without a cab in the way. Enjoy!
  11. Yours is way more stock than mine. I also plan on driving it a lot when completed so reliabilty and parts availabilty was and is a concern. Very few parts on mine aren't commonly available.
  12. I have no problem parting with them if they are wound in the correct direction for you. I may or may not have the latch for the other side. Over the years, 20 plus since apart, some parts have disappeared. If you're sure they're correct, send me your address and I'll drop them in the mail.
  13. Unfortunately, that's a fate that meets most customs. Once you start cutting, you start limiting the number of potential buyers. Same thing with custom paint. They look really cool but everybody says "if I was building it, I would of......" Both those builders may have a hard time finding someone else with the same exact poor taste with enough money and desire to own them.
  14. Your bear claws must be in a different position than the original door latch then, down somewhat. Mine are located in the stock location and the outside handles are gone, not even sure I have them anymore. Should check on latches themselvers also. Maybe this weekend. Sure, I like to see pictures of what others fabricate.
  15. Not to hijack the thread, but how did you set up the release for the bear claws? Solenoids or fab something to use with the original handles?
  16. I've been seriously considering it myself. With my chopped top, a non- vent windowed glass setup would be considerably easier than reworking the vent window.
  17. That Vette thing builder took a pair of nice projects and ruined them both as far as I'm concerned. I know beauty is supposed to be in the eye of the beholder but even a blind person feeling their way around it would say WTF.
  18. So, how many actually had their truck out in the first snow. I had part of mine (bed side) out in it. Knocked about 2 inches off it and brought it inside. Time for Hank to declare a winner, seeing as he started all this, and announce the prize.
  19. Snow plow just went through, finally. We're always last, seems like. Time to get the shovel working. Unfortunately, it's not a self starter. Mostly it just stands around unless someone is there to push it.
  20. We started out today with rain and snow mix, switching to snow, switching back to snow and rain. I'm going to have to move all mine by hand. Too wet and heavy for my little blower. Just got home from work about 15 minutes ago so it's still all there yet. It'll still be there in the morning.
  21. and from this angle, the doors match the fender color.
