  1. I think you're right. The gauge that just stopped working is a nos unit that I ordered from ebay. It worked for a while. When it stopped working I thought it was a calibration problem. I removed the sending unit and wired it directly to the gauge and it did nothing. I don't think the blades were heating up. I think some of these nos parts lose their shelf life on the shelf. The thin wires on the gauge grow brittle over time. Then what you ordered is a 70 year old part.
  2. I have a couple of six to twelve volt converters. Not entirely sure how to wire them in. They have in and out leads. Do the in leads wire between the switch and the gauge? If so where do the out leads connect?
  3. Yes it is aftermarket. I have a couple of converters I am trying.not sure of the connecting pattern. It has an in side and an out side.
  4. Is there a way to make a 12 volt fuel gauge work on these 6 volt systems?
  5. So the leak is coming from a cracked top half where the out fuel line connects. I took the top half from another pump. Attached it to the bottom half. The early leak is gone. She will run for about 3 minutes and choke down. If I turn on the electric pump while she's running the electric pump will overwhelm the mechanical pump and make it leak.
  6. What gasket sealer can I use on the 2 halves of a fuel pump?
  7. I did just as I said. I have the electric pump wired to the battery with a fuse and a toggle switch. My mechanical pump seems to be working. I switch on the electric for a few seconds and she starts right up. The mechanical has a leak issue.
  8. I'm referring to both hot and cold starts. I'm thinking about hooking the mechanical fuel pump back up and using the electric pump as a primer. The mechanical pump is still attached to the block.
  9. Now it's hard to start, but it will start. I set the float per the spec. Timing top dead center . Filed the points. I have to push the throttle half way to get it going. And there is a strong gas odor.
  10. I tried to drive to the convenience store this morning. It's a half mile away. Going to the store is downhill. She ran good. Coming back uphill was a different story. I reset the float height and she ran ok.
  11. After I added gas, nothing was coming out of the fuel line until I blew air up the line. The line connects on the tank about halfway. I'm assuming that inside the tank there's a hose or something that lies in the bottom of the tank.
  12. I paid quite a bit of money to get my original radio repaired. It worked fine, but I couldn't find any music on am radio. It was talk radio and religion. There was a time you could bring in was a station in Chicago. Another in fort Wayne in Indiana. Wls in Nashville. Can't pull them in now.
  13. She's running now . Going to see where it goes from here. Having to pull the tank is not something I want to do.
  14. I bought this tank from tanks ink about 5 years ago. I wouldn't think that there would be anything wrong with it.
  15. The contraption is a round metal piece that goes on the end of the vent tube. I took lines off all the way to the tank. Nothing was coming from the tank. I bought 5 gallons of gas for the tank. Keep in mind my fuel gage is reading 3 forth full this whole time. I put the gas in. Tried to start it and nothing. I took the line before the pump and nothing came out shoved the air hose in the line and I got sprayed with gas. She started after about 3 minutes of cranking. I still need to set some things back to where they were before all this started. Thanks for your help guys.
  16. Interesting. Why do you suppose it hasn't been a problem until now? My tank has a vent out the top with a hose going to a vent contraption that I located inside the fender.
  17. OK. I took the line off the carb. Turned on thr pump. Nothing. I pulled the out line from the pump. Turned it on. Nothing. Clamped the line going to the pump and pulled it off. Loosened the clamp and lo and behold no gas came out the line. Shoved the air hose in the line and blew. Nothing. Blew some more. Gas came gushing out. Put the lines back together and she started. Had to reset the float. Drove from the garage to the front of the house she died again. Pulled the line from the carb. Pump is spitting a little gas. Not enough to keep running. This is a replacement tank from tanks inc.
  18. Sam. I mean gas squirts when I move the throttle.
  19. I moved it counterclockwise a little. I will try clockwise.
  20. My mechanical fuel pump stopped working. I wasn't getting fuel to the carb. Ordered an electric pump. New pump is working. Looking down the throat of the carb I see gas squirting. Car doesn't want to run. It sputters and backfires through the carb. I tries changing the fuel and air mixture, adjusting the float height, moving the timing a little. It was running OK before the mechanical pump failed.
  21. I have a 48 p15. The signal flasher has 4 pins.all I can find are 2 and 3 pins. Any ideas?
  22. I was looking at the possibility of putting speakers in the package tray. I found there was no package tray. There is a piece of carpet lying on top of the steel structure in the bottom of the well. The piece of carpet is the right shape to trace out a tray on a sheet of mdf. I think it will work great.
  23. I managed to get my mechanical brake light switch attached. Had to run a separate wire for the middle brake light. Everything is working.
  24. I have a mechanical brake light switch I want to put on. Have any of you done this. How would be the best way to mount it. It has an lever that works off the brake pedal itself.
