  1. I agree, one can polish it to get back the shine, but it does take off paint each time. I just wanted the less experienced in the group to know what they potentially might be looking at up the road. I was a bodyman and painter for over 30 years and remember the disappointment of so many people who got an inexpensive paint job somewhere else and came to us a year later asking what could be done to fix it. Sometimes penny-wise can be pound foolish. I put a very inexpensive basecoat on my Plymouth, but put a good clearcoat over the top to protect it. Bud :D
  2. Leaving tomorrow morning for canada to meet and visit with Tom and to cut the roof and backside of the cab off of the main body of the scrap cab he has and bring home that and his 2 extra rusty doors for the upper frames. I am going to use the backside of the cab on the front of the bed so the cab and bed have the same contours. What an incredible group of guys on this forum. I feel blessed being a part of this group. next step is setting the cab on the new frame and then the top chop. Wayne is coming out Sunday to pick up the motor and trans. Busy weekend. Bud :D
  3. as stated in the p15-d24 forum, I suggest setting the hood out in the weather for a while and see how the paint stands the test of time. If no uv protectants, it may not last very long. Lets hope it does though. Bud
  4. mopar used to have a fiber "puck" that loved to sieze up. I got real good at pulling it apart and cleaning up the puck, reassembling it and getting her back on the road. That was back when I was a lot younger (and poorer). The vehicle was a volare. You might check and see if you have a fiber puck in your caliper. Bud
  5. sweeeeet. Beautiful color and looks to be great workmanship. Bud
  6. maybe so, but I for one will enjoy looking at them anyways. Lots of potential for some fun rides. Bud :D
  7. took the master cyl out when I pulled the engine, looks to be relatively new, rubber boot is great and the truck had solid brakes, I don't know how hard these are to get ahold of for these trucks and I will not be using this on my truck. pix attached, anyone interested?? Bud :D
  8. Mike, thanks for the pix on where to chain up the eng/trans for pulling, came out like a dream. Bud :D
  9. I took my temp gauge from my 49 plymouth, went and found an electric one that had about the same need,le. took both gauges apart, modified the 49 faceplate to fit the electric gauge and refitted it into the stock housing. I am sure you could probably do the same with the oil gauge. suprisingly enough, the electric gauge reads dead on for the 49 temp face plate. Bud
  10. go figure, you would think on the west coast there would be some rusty ones close, I have a line on a possibility from one of our bc friends.... if he ever sends the pictures...... hint. Bud :D
  11. I Will Take Some Pics This Weekend, The Ones I Have Are Too Big And This Computer Failure Of A Guy Doesn't Know How To Resize Them. I Lost All The Good Ones When My Computer Failed Last Year. All The Buildup And So On. Pits. Bud
  12. just the light, it looks miles deep. Best thing, I got the color off Ebay for $39.95 a gallon. Put a good clearcoat over the top and viola, great loooks with an inexpensive price tag. Bud
  13. look in my profile to see a plum crazy fully custom 49 plymouth. Bud
  14. does anyone have a 49 or 50 dodge dashboard that they would wish to sell? prefer complete with gauges, radio plate and glove box door, clock is optional. Bud
  15. I Have 4 1949-50 Desoto Hubcaps, Average Condition. Does Anyone Have A Need For Them? Bud
  16. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the 53 was not as badly rusted as I had initially thought, so instead of buying a rust free cab and doors, I am contemplating using the cab and doors I have. Since a chop is in the plans, I will need another roof and the upper parts of some doors. does anyone in the Pacific northwest (Washington state) have any parts that might fit the bill??? Surely someone has a rusty hulk with the lower part eaten away somewhere near here. Bud
  17. truck looks great, you seriously did this with a roller??? looks to be a great 10 footer now, can't wait to see the after pic. I bought paint off of e bay for $39.95 a gallon and sprayed my 49 Plymouth with it, It turned out great (purple). look in my profile for a pic of it. Bud
  18. ORDERED A TRAILER HITCH FROM WHITNEY, SAID 10 DAYS TO SHIP, 3 WEEKS LATER, I FOUND IT HAD NOT BEEN SHIPPED AND IT WAS BACK ORDERED, I CANCELLED THE ORDER, CALLED U HAUL, THEY ORDERED ONE FOR ME, GOT IT 3 DAYS LATER..... GUESS WHAT.... THE SAME ONE THAT WAS BACK ORDERED BY WHITNEYS SUPPLIER. GO FIGURE. I HAVE BOUGHT OTHER THINGS FROM WHITNEY IN THE PAST AND ALWAYS HAD GOOD LUCK, JUST THE ONE GLITCH. BUD
  19. welcome to the forum. too bad you live on the east coast, I am west coast. I have a complete 53 chassis with front suspension and rear suspension that would take care of all the problems this truck has. my 53 does not smoke at startup, but others with more flat head experience will come in with a more experienced answer. You will find the guys here super helpful and great people. Bud
  20. thanks for the replys, they will be very helpful. Is there a best place to put the chain on the block when I pull the motor? I prefer not to damage anything as this is a very good runner and has been sold to a member of the forum. Bud
  21. Felt like I was a kid again for a minute, riding in the backseat of "dads" car. Thanks for the memories, great video. Bud
  22. I read some of the archived threads about engine removal, but it all didn't register. the front sheet metal is off the truck, does the master cyl need to come out with the crossmember/ how about the column interference? looks tight. if I take the cover off the floor, will the pedals come out without damaging the floor? I want to take the engine and trans out together. How do you get the steering wheel off the column? so many questions, so little time,..... Bud
  23. I saw that it was welded, just makes the project that much more appealing and fun!!!!
