Finally figured it out with the help of the ACCA Forum. Move the handle down, as in opening the door. This will bring the latch catch inside the door. Push on the latch or wedge a screwdriver between the latch and door to keep the latch inside the door. Wiggle the handle, and when all the square holes line up the handle will slip out. Takes about 1 minute.
Rob - This releases the tension you mentioned and enables the holes to line up. Thank you ACCA! I thought you were just for snooty cars!
I am trying to remove the outside door handles on my 1937 Dodge Coupe. After removing the 2 outside screws, I thought they would just pull out. No such luck. They have a square shaft. Is there a clip, etc, on the inside of the door? Help!
Thanks, Bruce
Thanks, Tod, and you are correct about the serial number. I have the info from Chrysler, and my dodge is registered and licensed under the number plate on the passenger door, which is the serial number. BTW, the body number has a BC suffix, for "business coupe", which is what the old girl is.
My 1937 Dodge D5 has a small plate mounted on the firewall with a number that starts with D5. The paint has worn off the plate so I don't know what this number represents. It's not the VIN # or the engine #, is it the body #? The plate measures 1 1/4" x 2 5/8" and has round ends.
