  1. Hello everyone. I was wondering if I could get some input from you all? I am having carburetor problems with my '41 Plymouth P12. The engine seems to run fine under a load (though there is an occasional hesitation if I accelerate suddenly), but stalls whenever I disengage the clutch to come to a stop, and just wont idle for any length of time when I start it up. I have been using the throttle control to give her some extra gas to keep her going, but even that doesn't always work. The car does start up ok. The carburetor has been cleaned and new needle valve put in it. Any thoughts? Bruce More info on this--just went out and started her up. As usual this involves using throttle and choke. I found that when the engine warms up, I can close down the throttle and push in the choke almost all way, but if I push it in the last little bit (1/4 inch or so) she dies. I also found that when she is idling with the choke out a bit like that, I can goose the gas peddle and engine will accelerate smoothly, but when I let off the gas, she stalls. It would be nice if there was a place to post videos on this forum so I could SHOW you all what I mean. Bruce
  2. Welcome! There are a lot of great folks lurking here! Tell me, does your P14 have the vacuum assisted shift? Bruce
  3. Thanks for the tip--Ill take a look
  4. Having given your opinions due weight, I am tending to NOT add an oil filter. I plan on using straight 30 weight non-detergent oil (Valvoline) with Lucas zinc break in additive. Should I use this additive every time I change the oil? Bruce
  5. My '41 P12 came without an oil filter (I thought these were standard from 1940 on, but there you have it). How important is it to install one? Do I just change the oil more often? Thanks again. Also, I have attached a picture of my "ride". Bruce
  6. To all and sundry--I am in south-central Indiana, Brown County in fact. My car has not been converted to 12 V, and if I have to do so to install E.I, then I'll stick to points and condenser. But boy, I remember having probs with points back in the day, and the folks at "mopar" placed the distributor on the L-head in a bad place for a shoulder of the road replacement of points. I suppose regular tune-ups are the best way to handle the situation. I just didn't realize that points and condenser for my distributor were readily available at any parts store. Bruce
  7. I hope I haven't opened up a can of worms here asking about the e.i. for my car. Can someone clue me in on the "police" reference, or is that another can of worms? :-) Bruce
  8. Hi, everyone. My name is Bruce from Indiana and I am new to this forum. Someone at the POC forums said that some of you fellows have converted your points and condenser ignition system to electronic ignition. I would like to do the same with my '41 P12 Special Deluxe. This should be doable, since there probably wasn't much difference in the distributors in the P12 and later models. Any recommendations for the best one to buy? Thanks. Bruce
