  1. Thanks for the info Mike, I will give that a try. Bob:D
  2. Could anyone tell me if the steering column comes off of the steering box? I removed the bolt and nut from the clamp at the bottom of the column but I dont want to force it off if it does not come off. And if it does is there a tool for this? Thanks.. Bob
  3. Thanks guys for the advice. I dont know what I would do without this forum! Tom was right. After work today I went out to the garage and tried what he said by pushing the clutch in , and like magic it slipped right in! Next time I'll ask before I spend a couple hours trying to figure something out. I just want to try to do it on my own without asking questions all the time. Thanks again.... Bob
  4. Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I have been trying to install my transmission tonight for the past 2 hours and cant sem to get the trans to go all the way in flush with the bell housing. I have taken it in and out about a thousand times ( maybe only one hundred times ) but it wont go in. I am ready to take the BFH to it. Here is a pic of how far it goes in. Thanks... Bob
  5. Thanks guys for the pics. They were a great help,I got it all put back together tonight. Bob
  6. I removed the support bracket and hand brake assembly off the rear of the transmission to clean and paint everything, but when I put it back together I found an extra washer or what could be a shim in the pile of crud I scraped off and dont know where it came from. Its about 2" across and the hole in the center is 1 1/2". There is a identical one that goes over the shaft in front the gear on that runs the speedo cable. Does anyone know where this goes? Thanks.... Bob
  7. Hey Mike, here is the pics of the trans. Hope they help. It actually sticks out 3/4 of an inch. Bob
  8. Mike , when I get home this afternoon I will be glad to do that.
  9. Thanks for the replies. I went back out to the barn to try what paul said but the top does not turn. It's one piece of metal all the way down. Here is a pic. I guess I will have to take the top off. Will fluid come out then?
  10. Just wanted to know if its possible to remove the shift lever and knob out of the transmission without alot of work? It will be alot easier to set my cab back on without the lever in the way. It is a four speed by the way, I dont know if that makes a difference. Thanks.... Bob:D
  11. Yes it is a truck frame, a 1949 1-ton. As far as the belt the other ones I got from Auto Zone and Napa were 1" to big. The one that ended up fitting was a 48" one from Oreilly auto parts.
  12. I got the motor put in today! Here are some more pics.
  13. Reg is correct, it is a Stromberg.
  14. Here are a few pics of my motor. I still need plug wires and a coil and a fan belt. I know it's not the correct colors but I am not restoring the truck to sell it so I painted the color I wanted:D . I was lucky enough to only break 4 manifold bolts. It was the first time I had to drill and tap something, It was quite the pain in the *#$. 3 hours and 20 some drill bits later it turned out great. By the way does anyone have the part number for the fan belt, and are they available at auto parts stores? Thanks
