  1. I also have an electric pump mounted back near the gas tank of my '41. I use it only for priming the carb. Once the carb float bowl is full I shut it off and then start the engine. You know when the bowl is full because the sound from the electric pump changes once it starts trying to pump with no flow. The mechanical pump has no problem drawing gas through the electric pump. Phil
  2. Both of my '40 & '41 Dodges are like that. Phil
  3. Just out of curiosity, are the ends soldered or crimped to the cables? Phil
  4. Don't know if the solenoid for an R-7 is the same as that for an R-10 or not. Try calling Studebaker International ((317) 462-3124). They have new 6V solenoids for the R-10. I have one on my 1940 Dodge and it has been working great since 2011. Phil
  5. This is the oil filter and canister for the D24 engine in my '40 Dodge. Work fine together. Phil
  6. I knew that I had a pic around somewhere and I finally found it. Not perfect but you can see that there is a bracket (which bolts to the rear oil filter bracket bolt) that the spring is attached to. The bracket is just in front of the block welch plug. Hope this helps. Phil
  7. Very nice Dodge. Do you happen to have a photo of where the other end of the wire to the choke is connected to? Phil
  8. That is absolutely gorgeous. The color and stance are perfect. Great job. Phil
  9. Rich, I have a question for you re the 6V electric pump. I just installed a 6V electric fuel pump on my '41 for the sole purpose of priming the carb after it sits for a few weeks or more (toggle switch operated). I was not intending on using it as a backup for normal operation. It pumps through the mechanical pump. I thought that if the diaphragm of the mechanical pump was the failed component then the electric could pump gas into the crankcase. Am I wrong or is there a way around this issue? Phil
  10. Since I have just now received the balance of my order from The Plymouth Doctor I am going to list the 'facts' about my order (without editorializing) and let you determine how you proceed. There are both good and bad aspects. The product I ordered was a set of rocker panels for my '40 Dodge 4 dr. (8 pieces - front outer & inner and rear outer & inner). 1. Order placed by phone on Oct. 17, 2014 with an expected ship date in about 2 weeks. My Mastercard was processed the same day. 2. Between Nov. 24, 2014 and Feb. 13, 2015 I called him 12 times to enquire about the status of my order. The 8 times he answered the phone he had a variety of stories about the order. Of the 4 times I left a message on his answering machine he never returned a call. He does have the parts made by an external fabricator and I suspect that he has trouble with them. 3. Parts shipped Feb. 13, 2015. 4, Parts received Feb. 25, 2015 (in Canada). 5. The rear inners were not the correct parts. Called Feb. 25, left message, sent an e-mail with photos on Feb.27. He returned my call Feb. 27 and agreed they were not correct and promised to have the correct ones made up and sent out to me at no cost. I also did not have to return the incorrect pieces. 6. Between Mar. 13 and Sept. 16 I called him 11 times. The 5 times he answered he again had a variety of reasons for the delay. I left a voice message 6 times of which he never returned a call. 7. On my Sept. 16 call he informed me that the parts had been shipped out on Sept. 8 and gave me a tracking number. 8. Correct rear inners were received Sept. 22, 2015. The quality of the pieces appears to be good but won't know for sure until I install them. Phil
  11. No problem. I should have asked sooner Phil
  12. Thanks very much. It was the bulb that I couldn't find the last time I tried this. I'll get a pair of these bulbs and give it another try. Are you running 12V or 6V? Both of my cars are 6V. Phil
  13. What did you use for sockets for the directionals? I tried to do this with my '40 Dodge but couldn't find a socket to fit in the available space. Phil
  14. Thanks Robert. Yes, I am working on an alternative storage location for the bikes (backyard shed ). Phil
  15. This didn't work for my '40 because the filler tube has a small vent tube attached that won't fit through the grommet. I guess the newer cars don't have the vent. Phil
  16. Thanks guys. Niel, I would turn them around but the garage is under the house and the wife complains about the exhaust smell that gets into the house when they are facing out . One day when she is out I may turn them around just for a photo op . Phil
  17. After more than 10 years apart, my '40 and '41 Dodges are back together again in the same garage . My '64 Pontiac Tempest project is gone (sold off) and my '65 Corvair spends the summer in the driveway. Hopefully I will find more time to drive the Dodges now that I don't have to play musical garages. Phil
  18. Yes, mine are the accordian style rubber boot. No problem turning them inside out but still took a bit of effort to pull them on, but I did get them on. Phil
  19. I'll see if I can explain this! Lubricate the 'outside' surface of the rubber boot. Then you turn the rubber boot inside out, pull the large end over first and this will give you leverage to get the small end pulled over and in the correct place. Then turn it back inside right. Worked for me. Phil
  20. Here is a '40 Dodge photo that I picked off the internet many years ago. Phil
  21. Another good idea. Thanks. Phil
  22. To get back to Bob's original post..., on my '40 the original 3 spd has the speedometer cable connection on the pass. side whereas the OD tranny has it on the drivers side, hence the cable length issue. When I installed my OD I rerouted the speedo cable so that instead of it going through a firewall whole on the pass. side it now goes through one on the drivers side and the original cable works fine. Since then I have purchased a cable extension but have not bothered to install it. Don't know if the P15 is in the same situation or not. Phil
  23. Good idea. Thanks. Phil P.S. It is currently tucked away for the winter but by early April I will give this a shot.
  24. That's what I was thinking but I only get one chance so I thought I would ask. Phil
