  1. Was wondering if anyone has any advise on how to gain access to set the valve clearances on my D24 while engine is in the car. I know some of the trucks had a removable panel on the inner wing but there is no such panel on the car and think it is going to be difficult to do without removing both intake and exhaust manifolds. Any advise would be much appreciated.
  2. Thanks for this info i will definitely check the throttle butterfly. I did not take it off but because the car has not run since 72 it might not be set correctly. Thanks again for the info.
  3. It has had a carb kit installed including new accelerator pump.
  4. Hope someone can help. I have a 48 Dodge club coupe, 230 motor with a ball and ball carb on it. I am having problems with the carb and setting the idle speed. If i set the idle speed to slow the engine ticks over fine but when i press the accelerator pedal the engine does not pick up revs straight away and cuts out sometimes. If i feather the pedal this helps and will usually then pick up revs. If i set the idle speed to fast i do not have this problem and the car picks up revs ok. The plugs are also getting fouled with black carbon so presume it might be running too rich Any help would be much appreciated. Graham
  5. Thanks Brent, i have contacted both of them and have left details of what i need so will wait to see what they come up with. fingers crossed. Regards Graham
  6. Thanks for the reply, i have put a request in the Truck parts wanted section but wonderd if anyone had any advise on where i might locate a column and box or if there is any other option for me to look at with regards to the column i have being from the larger model of truck. Regards Graham
  7. I BOUGHT A STEERING COLUMN AND BOX FOR MY 1946 HALFTON DODGE TRUCK A WHILE AGO AND HAD IT SHIPPED TO ENGLAND, WHEN IT ARRIVED I FOUND MY PITMAN ARM WOULD NOT FIT THE SPLINE ON THE BOX SO STARTED TO LOOK FOR ONE THAT WOULD FIT. A MONTH OR SO LATER I HAVE JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE COLUMN AND BOX I BOUGHT ARE FROM A 1 1/2 TON MODEL AND MINE IS A 1/2 TON MODEL. EVEN IF I MANAGE TO GET A PITMAN ARM FROM A 1 AND A 1/2 TON TRUCK IT WILL NOT FIT MY DRAG LINK AS EVERYTHING IS LARGER. I NOW FIND MYSELF IN A POSITION WHERE I NEED TO LOCATE A 1/2 TON STEERING COLUMN AND BOX AND ALSO A STEERING WHEEL IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS ANYTHING THAT COULD HELP PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS I AM DESPERATE TO GET THE TRUCK BACK ON THE ROAD FOR THE SUMMER ANY ADVISE ON THIS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED, I HAVE ASKED ON THE 39 - 46 YAHOO GROUP PAGE BUT AS YET HAVE NOT LOCATED ANYTHING. REGARDS GRAHAM COOK.
  8. I bought the column on ebay from a liquidation company so cant get any info there, i will count the splines and ask on the truck yahoo site to see if anyone can help. Thanks for your help Jerry, Regards Graham
  9. Thanks for the info. I am not sure how i will identify which one will fit though as the steering column and box were bought and not original to the truck. Do you know if the difference lies in the spline size or is it shaped differently to connect to the drag link ? Many thanks Graham.
  10. Can anyone please advise me on the following. I recently took out the modern tilt steering column that had been fitted to my 46 halfton Dodge truck and replaced it with an original 46 column and steering box only to find the pitman arm had also been changed and was a smaller spline than the original one .I now need to find a pitman arm to fit and wondered if anyone could advise which year and models would fit. I also need to find an original steering wheel and wondered wether the later b series trucks had the same size spline. Regards Graham Cook ( England )
  11. Thanks for the advise on the wiring, think im gonna have a go at making up my own harness .
  12. The car is a daily driver and as i am in England it will only be going to local shows which dont use the points system for prizes. I would like a loom that incorporates the wires that go from the transmission if possible. I have had a few problems recently with the car since i had it converted to 12v and after seeking advice on here i put it back to 6v as i was told the solonoids and governors on the transmission dont like 12v going through them. The wiring definately needs replacing as i dont want her to go up in flames. Can anyone recomend a cheaper option to the cloth covered harnesses that are labeled well for fitting? Thank for everyones help so far.
  13. I have a 1947 Desoto 3 window coupe and need to replace the wiring. Can anyone recomend where i can buy a new harness/ loom? I did find a link to a company called Riwire based in Rhode Island but there loom is over $1000. Has any one used them or any other company? Hope someone can help, Graham.
  14. Thanks for the info and let me know if you decide to scrap the 49 i would be interested in the 3 speedbox from it, what price would you be looking for? I am in England but sometimes buy vehicles from a guy in CA and have them shipped here so if i could get it sent to him that would be good.
  15. Thanks guys for all your advise , i think i will try and locate a 3 speed with synchro as recomended by Jerry. Where i live here in England it is very hilly and seem to be for ever trying to change down the gears with difficulty even after doubling the clutch and giving it some throttle inbetween. Will the 3 speed synchro boxes from the next series of trucks fit- ie 1948 onwards ? Im thinking it may be easier for me to locate one of these. if anyone knows of a suitable box available please let me know. Graham.
  16. Thanks for your reply, will any of the car gearboxes fit or will i have to source a truck box? A friend in CA is prepared to help me ship one over if i locate one Stateside, i will also try the yahoo 39-47 group, thanks for your help. Regards Graham.
  17. I have a 1946 dodge halfton short bed truck which i exported from the States to England a while ago and have found it difficult to drive with the non synchro 4 speed box, it has the original straight 6 engine and wondered which chrysler corporation 3 speed synchro boxes would fit and would i have to change the bellhousing? Does anyone know where i could locate a 3 speed for it?
  18. Thank you all for your info on this topic it has been most helpfull, lets keep these old mopars on the road, regards Graham.

  21. Hi Ian, i am in cornwall and have a 1948 dodge club coupe that i am thinking of selling if you are interested ?
  22. Can any one please let me know if they have used RockAuto.com for spares, i have a 1947 desoto 3 window coupe (profile pic) a 1948 desoto 4 door sedan a 1948 dodge 5 window coupe and a 1946 dodge halfton pickup and just wondered if they were reliable on parts as they do seem to list quite a lot of parts and shipping seems very resonable as im in England ? Graham.
  23. Can anyone help? I have a 47 desoto 3 window coupe and i am in England, I have a 48 desoto 4 door arriving and also a 48 dodge 5 window coupe arriving soon from the States, does anyone know a good company who will supply and ship parts to the uk, i need brake cylinders or repair kits / rear wheel bearing / points / rotor arm / condenser / dissy cap/ coil/ plugs/ leads / etc, my desoto is all original and i think quite rare i did notice a member in the uk from hemsby say he had a 48 3 window, but looking at the pics it is a 5 window, just wondered if anyone knows how many 3 window 46-47-48 desotos are left? Graham.
