  1. I know alot of people here aren't to keen with non-stock cars, but I decided to take a saw to my car. I took 2" out of the middle, and chopped the top 3". 5" over stock sounds like alot, but it really doesn't look extreme at all, with all the work in it, it doesn't look like a huge difference. I have been posting this on the HAMB, and a member there just photoshopped it for me, this is what it hopefully will look when its done. Heres a link to the thread on the HAMB http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=430749
  2. I just sold my a833 OD trans, the aluminum one with OD. It had the IBR changed out from the 5 1/4 to the 4.8", so it would fit the scattershield for my BB. It was used behind a BB before that with the smaller bearing and was stomped on pretty hard, no problems even with the OD gear. If you need any parts or questions, the guy to talk to is Jaime Passon from Passon Performance, he knows everything about 833's, rebuilds and sells them.
  3. Very nice looking car! I have a 49 wayfarer, SOMEDAY, it should be done. I wouldn't worry too much about the engine, I would really check the brakes and lines though. What about a spare ign coil, rad. water, tool kit? Any other small parts he might need? I am thinking of that old cartoon about the quick fixs, forgot what magazine it was in.
  4. I put dryer sheets in our camper, no signs of mice. Two days ago I rolled out the dodge to clear some room for painting, and found mice took up residence in the rocker panel and in the frame. When I did the Dakota subframe, I found the frame was packed solid with Nebraska dirt and mouse nesting. Cant seal up all the holes in the frame.
  5. I have to walk past the IH K2 to get to the Dodge, and if I have a couple bucks to spend, it should go to paint. Its closer to driving, and I have a long way to go on the Dodge. 52 cambridge, I am self taught, and my new Miller 180 220V welder is great. A whole lot of spot welds.
  6. Heres a pic of the backside of the new firewall and floorbaord I welded in. Removed the firewall for more engine room. I knew I had bad rot in the floorboard, but couldn't stop cutting. Mice had been living in the rockers, and rotted them all the way up to the front body mount, and the inner rocker was bad. I have a NOS rocker to weld on, and then on to the other side. Taking a break on this, I'm going to get to painting my 1946 International, closest to being finished after I took it down to the frame and had an engine rebuild.
  7. Great picsof the show. It was real close to me, but couldn't make it. Did you try the Pitti Pana dish at Al Johnsons? Its swedish hash and half the plate is pickled beets. My family goes to Door County every year, camp in the state park. Didn't see any 49 wayfarerers?
  8. dezeldoc, its a big block 383, and its recessed almost 4". gave it alittle more so I could get at the top bolts of the scattershield. The nose of the water pump is long on these, don't know if they have a shorter one.
  9. Heres one of the firewall. Not done yet. I mounted the engine with the radiator to get clearance, but I will be running an electric fan instead of the blade. I have a scattershield with the A833 4 speed, and a 8 3/4 rear. No driveshaft yet, will have to get one made, don't think I could get a junkyard one of those. http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/download.php?Number=5092811 This is an older pic, before offsetting the engine, got the coulumn over alittle more, and before I cut it.
  10. Heres an update of my 49 wayfarer. I have the Dakota frame, new engine mounts, had to offset the engine almost 2" and made a recessed firewall. Cut the coulumn off, welded a plug and DD steering shaft, bronze bearing and a Borgeson joint from a Chevy Astro van. Had to hack away at the firewall I made, didn't measure it with the heads and valve covers on, had to cut more out. Measure twice, cut once.
  11. Copied the link I posted, used a bronze bushing, thanks for the idea windsor 8. Got a joint off a Chevy Astro van. The stock tube is 7/8", and hollow, and I ground down a DD shaft, stuck it in and welded it. Hope this pic works. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=627659&d=1238121265
  12. I made a shrinking disk, and used it and have used a torch on the roof and hood of my truck. I couldn't believe it worked. Took some practice, sometimes seemed to chase the 'oil can' dent.
  13. By the way, this is what I'm planning on. Will have to find a poly bushing I guess instead of a bearing. http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/techarticles/0703rc_modifying_a_stock_column/index.html
  14. Using the Dakota front end on my Wayfarer, but want to use the stock column. Read about the Save-a-column, but called them, they're out of business. Looking for a bearing for the end of the column, and I'll buy a Borgeson joint for the end. The column ID is 1 5/8", and the shaft insides OD is 7/8". Went to Grainger and a bearing business. Both could not find one that size. Has anyone done this before her and what bearing did they use? 2nd question is I never measured how far out from the dash the steering wheel is. Could someone give me a measurement? Don't know if it matters, but its for a 49 wayfarer. Thanks.
  15. You shouldn't shoot epoxy over any self etching product or rust nuetralizer. The acids react with the epoxy and cause lifting and adhesion problems. I would look at a painting website such as autobody101.com, and ask the PPG dealer.
