  1. And be sure to check your heat riser for proper operation.
  2. Excellent Greg, that does sound like a good option as someone suggested. California does allow restoration of vintage plates.
  3. Thanks for all the info, I've checked the latest pdf. on yom plates and restoration is allowed, just duplication is not. I will try to get mine passed in the original state as they are first, as I might run into problems with uneducated dmv personnel trying to present restored plates.
  4. Great job indeed and look very original. Thanks for posting.
  5. Thanks, I will keep that in mind.
  6. Make sure the front and rear shoes are not swapped on the front wheels. It may be that they are different lengths, as in the front shoe may need to be the longer one. Check your shop manual.
  7. Yes, I can see the improvement alright.
  8. Wow, those are in pretty good shape. How do you deal with the registration stickers? Did they supply you with an official extension plate?
  9. Lots of interesting info here, thanks to all for taking the time.
  10. Great tip...my plates are unfortunately not very straight, this is a good method with plates in good condition. Thanks
  11. Does anyone know of someone in the Socal area that does vintage license plate restoration?
  12. Looking for some input or thoughts on General tires. I'll be buying a set of black wall 6 × 16 bias ply tires from Lucas Tire for it soon and welcome input as to which brands are known to be good or better than others.
  13. Good solution to a pain in the arse glove box door. The original factory set up on my glove box was formed music wire, but I cannot remember how it was placed. The hinges on my door are of the sector arm type and not visible, they are on the outsides of the box hidden behind the dash. I think I will try some springy rubber bumpers. Thanks.
  14. I'm looking for a glove box check spring for my 41 Plymouth coupe. Any leads would be great. I could make one but the original broke some time ago. Thanks. It's part number 935762
  15. Great info, thanks a bunch guys.
  16. I'm installing a new head gasket on my flathead six for my 1941 Plymouth. So there are three special head bolts with drilled and tapped heads. These also have a 11/16" head on them, as the others do. These three accept the screws that attach the throttle bracket and the air cleaner bracket to the cylinder head. I want to install three new bolts, as the existing ones are original to the car and not new like the others. Does anyone know of a supplier who sells new bolts such as these?
  17. Thank you guys, best pals a flathead nut could ever have!
  18. Living in Southern California, I'm not running a heater in my car, a 1941 Plymouth coupe. I still have the shut-off valve at the back of the head installed with the return hose going to the water pump, as the car originally came with a heater which began to leak, so it was removed. Would there be any issues removing the heater valve on the head and plugging it as well as the return line connection to the water pump? I can't see any myself but welcome input from other members.
  19. Well gentlemen, now I am having this same perplexing problem. I have rewired the entire car as it was originally. Everything has worked great for a couple of months. I was driving home at night last week and I lost the lights. I found a blown fuse and replaced it with another 30 amp. My switch is a replacement n.o.s. switch, it did not come packaged but looked and operated as brand-new. When I pull the switch out to the first detent, the built in fuse holder gets too hot to touch within 15 seconds or so. I did not know these switches were repairable since they are put together with crimped over tabs and I would be concerned that they would break upon reassembly. I will remove the switch and try to disassemble it. I operates perfectly mechanically, but perhaps the contacts inside are dirty? Has anyone come across this problem before? Any further help would be great.
  20. I mailed out for my build sheet over 4 months ago and so far nothing, not a reply.
