  1. Did anyone ever purchase any of these? I am very curious to know how they look and if the cable ferrule matches the original ones from our trucks. Thanks, Jeff
  2. Hank; Based on the price breakdown he gave me he is definitely not gouging me. I am fairly certain I will be happy with what he does for the cost. Is it going to look like a restoration? Probably not. I have always looked at this truck as sort of a recycling project......more or less stock with a few carefully thought out upgrades and hopefully a well used look. You know like an old pair of comfy blue jeans. I will be really happy if it comes out that way........and if it doesn't .....then I will just have to keep working on it til it does. Jeff
  3. Hi Paul; Sorry you are having this problem. If you are going to rebuild the fuel pump I suggest you wait until the kit arrives to disassemble it. Or at least take photos of the check valves inside prior to removing them. It would be easy to put them in the wrong way if the pump has been apart for a while. When you were replacing the brake lines did you replace the fuel line up to the pump as well? Did you get the tank cleaned and lined? Most old fuel tanks get quite a collection of crud in them over time. When it comes to fuel systems there is no such thing as too clean. I have been toying with the idea of adding a spin on type fuel/water seperator filter to my truck. Our fuel supply isn't always as clean as you would think. This is probably overkill........but I like to get as close to "bulletproof" as I can while I have things apart. Jeff
  4. Thanks for all your input.....single stage was my first choice too. Jeff
  5. Don; Well I just found it myself and thought I'd share it with others on the group. I am sure you will like it. Jeff
  6. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I managed to work out a deal with a local paint and body shop to get my truck painted.......for a price I can actually live with. They are even going to do a bit of body work that is probably beyond my skill set. And they are going to start by the end of next week! YEAH! I am going to have the truck painted a 50's type beige and I have already done the running boards, grill , trim and bumpers in satin black. Since I am going to use this truck as my daily driver I have elected to leave some of the existing battle scars and dings in it. I am hoping that this comes out looking like an old work truck........ as that is what it is afterall. I do have one question for you guy's? I am definitely not after a show truck. I need to make a choice between PPG Essential Line single stage and PPG Enviro base with 4010 clearcoat. My thought is to go with the single stage (and save about $300) as I would not mind if it faded some over time. Any input on this would be appreciated. Jeff
  7. Hi Tim; A true pioneer of motorsports I'd say. They have some great footage and interviews in it. A must see for anyone who is into automotive stuff. It is on Hulu Movies.......so I watched twice! When I was a kid I got to sit in the Goldenrod. It was at the time the worlds fastest piston engined car. 4 Chrysler hemis if I remember correctly. It seemed like it was a mile long. Your video won't play.......has been blocked by EMI.......not sure why? Do you have some copyrighted music on it? Jeff
  8. Thanks Guy's; There is some good food for thought in all this. Tim; Thought of you last night........ while watching "Boys of Bonneville". Great documentary about Ab Jenkins and the Mormon Meteor. If you all have not seen this it is well worth watching. Very cool...... lot's of great footage and a very inspiring story. Jeff
  9. Guy's; I am a bit curious as to why the hard rubber only goes on the driver side? Wouldn't both front mounts behave similarly? I guess you can tell I haven't actually driven mine yet by this question........and I am certain there is a logical explanation. It is always good to know.the real reasoning behind things like this. This project certainly has been full of little details like this. It is really great that we have a forum like this help with the answers. Jeff
  10. Mark; Sounds good. That all makes sense. My cab mounts may not have been original ....the truck had been T-boned too....... certainly they were in pretty sad shape. I am just trying to make certain I have the correct bits for this. One of the several "very important" aspects of proper reassembly. If you know what I mean. Jeff. Looking forward to getting the heater. I have been doing pretty good lately getting the last of the items I was missing or really wanted to add. Can't wait to start putting it all together.....hopefully the painter who came by yesterday will come up with a price I can live with.
  11. Mark......Ok I suppose I could find one of those. Did you make one for your truck? You wouldn't happen to have finished dimensions would you? I do have a restored 1948 Shopsmith lathe that would be age appropriate for this job. Jeff.......old dog starting to get the hang of this new format. Now if I can just figure out how to make the font/size easier to read........
  12. Hi Guy's; I need to get some new cab mounts.....specifically the rubber parts. I think Roberts carries them but I seem to remember a discussion about them being not quite right.....perhaps too soft. Has anyone bought these from Roberts lately? Were they OK? Or is there another source I should look at? Thanks, Jeff
  13. It looks like way too much trailer for a relatively standard PH to me. I suggest you use a larger modern truck as beginning step to help you assess the real towing requirements of a trailer like this. Once you have a few trips under your belt you should have a pretty good idea of what is really needed. I am sure you will see that Safe Towing takes a lot more than just having a HD hitch on the back of your truck. Jeff
  14. Brrrrrrrr....rrrrr! I see you leave the poor American Iron outside. I bet your in posh shed with a cuppa wrenching on a Brough Superior or a sweet little New Imperial. If it makes you feel any better we have just come out of a spell where it was actually warmer in Anchorage Alaska than here in the Los Angeles Basin. And we didn't get where we are by liking the cold! Jeff
  15. Paul; Thanks.....now I am cross-eyed.......... Jeff
  16. Chris; My 3/4 ton front end has 7 springs each side. I believe the 1/2 tons and 3/4 ton had this setup but the spring ratings were a bit higher on the 3/4 ton springs. Deavers Springs in Santa Ana, Ca. has all the spring data for each model........I imagine others have this data as well. Jeff
  17. Looznutz; Sorry....I need to get all the flat glass for my truck. Measure the center to center distance front to rear on both sides they should be the same. If it is off by much at all the truck will crab down the road. Bad for the tires and potentially very dangerous. My tie rod was bent like yours.....that is an easy fix as long as the metal is still sound. If something does not look right then it should be looked over carefully. Trust your eye. I kept looking at my truck after I got it and something just didn't look correct when viewed from the rear. On close examination I discovered my frame was bent ......some of these trucks lead a hard life. Mine showed evidence of being T-boned at the drivers door and the entire rear end was cocked over to the drivers side. Almost 2" as it turned out. Very difficult to assess with the body on ....almost all the damage was hidden by the cab and bodywork..... very easy to assess with it off. We managed to get it all straightened out and triangulated but it was a huge step I was not counting on when I bought the truck Take a good hard look at your rear axle to see if the problem is associated with the mounting points ....the problem should be fairly obvious.... if it is not then you need to look the frame over very carefully. Jeff
  18. Looznutz; You wouldn't believe how close I came to making an offer on it myself....I was waiting on a payment from a customer and when it came in the listing was gone. Your truck has to have been one of the nicest original looking trucks I have seen for sale in this area.....especially for the $. It reminds me a lot of the truck from the movie "the Rounders". I don't really have room for another truck but it was that nice....................... Where in SFV are you located.......I have in-laws up in Newbury Park that we visit from time to time. Jeff
  19. That is a nice one! I remember seeing it listed and thinking that was too good to pass up.........and then it was gone. Glad someone here got it. Jeff
  20. Chris; If you do a disc conversion these spindles will probably still work......you can probably get by with a little mill file and emery cloth clean up. Jeff
  21. Surely somebody here has bought from this source. Maybe some of the car guys? What I would really like to know is if they come with or can supply the mounting ferrule & nut.......and will it fit our trucks? Jeff
  22. Hi Guy's; There is a site that features Chrysler Dash Knobs and cables......was wondering if any of you had purchased from them and if so how was the quality of the product? I am starting to gather the items I need to complete the controls for my project and like the idea of using new control cables throughout. Since I am adding some options like "Fresh Air" it might be good to have all the knobs match..... if they look close to the originals? I might even try to engineer a cable operated hood latch/lock. Thanks in advance, Jeff
  23. Paul; Well hopefully the grill was in good shape and will make a nice addition to your truck. Jeff
