  1. I think that the flux on the brazing rod is the culprit in making the paint bubble. I wonder if a thorough cleaning of the brazed panel before painting would help.
  2. Here in the Boston suburbs it is snowing to beat the band! We have had over five feet of snow so far this winter. Not much compared to Buffalo, but a lot for us. I just got in from snowblowing about 6 inches. We are supposed to get another 3 or 4 inches tonight, then your storm is arriving tomorrow and is supposed to drop another 4 to eight inches. The snowbanks at the end of my driveway are head height now, not sure what to do tomorrow. Moose is about 20 mi. west of me, I'm sure he would back up what I'm saying. Can't wait for spring! Dave
  3. I had a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower do this. I had hit a stick or rock and the motor stopped. When I tried to re-start it, it behaved the way you describe. What I figured out was that the flywheel is on a keyed shaft. The key is soft and made to shear. When the motor stopped suddenly the key partially sheared. This allowed the flywheel to turn a few degrees, enough to mess up the timing. If you can, look at the end of the shaft the flywheel sets on to check the key. Dave
  4. Thanks for the info Steve, I have to get wheels and tires after the spring thaw. Dave
  5. The car looks great! I started mine in the garage, just to keep it running. It was 30 degrees here today, huge snow piles and lots of salt on the roads. Your wheels and tire look good. Where did you get them? Did the come mounted and balanced? Dave
  6. 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I gave the 4 wheel drive a work-out yesterday.
  7. I recently subscribed to Hemmings Motor News online and let my print subscription lapse. I had been getting the print version for 10 years or so. The online version is a bargain. $12/yr as opposed to $36/yr for the print version. The online version is a PDF of the print magazine. All of the pages, ads, articles are there exactly the same as the print version. A nice feature is that all of the web addresses in the ads are live links. If you see something you like, you just click on the link to go to the companies page. Dave
  8. Thank you for the concise overview. I remembered some of it, but learned a lot. Dave
  9. I had a'94 Dodge van with a 318 for eleven years. It would get 17 mpg on the highway and 14-15 around town. It did have a 4th gear overdrive. Dave
  10. He used to personally own a 1936 Ford Phaeton. It used to be on display at the Larz Andersen Museum of Transportation in Brookline, MA. The museum had a shake-up about a dozen years ago, and I haven't seen the Ford since. I just found a picture of the car from the FDR Presidential Library and Museum.
  11. Beautiful! It looks almost identical to my '48 D24 dash, except in the D24 the speedo and clock are round. Dave
  12. Very nice! I wonder if you could do a deckel edge on it?
  13. Hemmings reports today that 51 vehicles from 1937-1948, including several Mopars, will be auctioned in England. The vehicles were used in the production of the movie "Captain America". http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2011/01/19/auction-pulse-51-captain-america-vehicles-at-brooklands/?refer=news
  14. Yes, I have been trying to take it out every couple of weeks to keep it running. I didn't take it out today, but did run it up to temperature in the garage. It looks like that is the best I can do for a while. Snow is forecast again for friday.
  15. I was just looking in the Eastwood catalog and noticed that they have similar spray can product called Eastwood Liquid Chrome. Like the Killer Chrome it a 3 can process. $119.97 for the kit.
  16. The pictures look great Bob! It is warm here today also, in the mid thirties; however it is raining. Yesterday we had snow, rain, and ice. The streets are a mess. Still, you inspired me to go out to the garage to start the coupe and let it warm up. Let's hope that it is a short winter. Dave
  17. The fish look great! What did you use to color them?
  18. Your new radiator looks great! -- However, I have a question for the forum. The radiator in my D24 does not appear to be painted. The top tank looks like it is brass. Were the radiators painted from the factory, or were they bare metal?
  19. I bought a similar puller 2 years ago. When I got it the paint or oxide finish on the threaded post made it nearly impossible to use. Once the threads were cleared it worked great. That is a good price for one.
  20. Merry Christmas to all of you and yours! Dave
  21. I love to watch lunar eclipses. I taught earth science for many years and when an eclipse was approaching it was always a 'seize the moment' day. The curruculum would go out the window, and the class would study eclipses for a day or two. One of my favorites was the October 2004 eclipse on the night the Red Sox won the World Series. Unfortunately last night it snowed here, so I didn't stay up for this eclipse. Hopefully I will get a good look at the next one visible on the east coast on Sept. 28, 2015. Dave
  22. Plywood looks great, and I know that it was made from a sedan. However, I was wondering, are the wood sides actually structural, or are they a veneer applied over the sheet metal body? Dave
  23. Thanks all for your kind words. I was thinking about how I had the camera clamp for about 20 years and wondered if something like it were available now. I was stunned when I googled it to find out the company is still in business making exactly the same "clampette" in the USA. Great little device, holds a digital camera easily. Here is their website: http://www.highsierramfg.com/index.html Dave
  24. No, I did not wash the car on return. The roads were still mostly dry and only a little snow stuck on the car. I did wipe a bit off of the fenders and trunk so that I wouldn't get the garage too wet. Dave
