  1. Does the 1991 Checy Cheyanne even have a converter? I would have to look.
  2. I have heard that the Pennzoil had the parafin wax added, and that is what would gunk up the motors. Then I have heard the opposite... Either way...Free oil is a good thing!
  3. LOL....no, I am going to add a quart to the cheapo oil when I change it. I may just use it in my 1991 Chevy 4.3 P/U truck, that gets driven more!
  4. I scored 1-1/2 cases of mid 90's Pennzoil from a basement...free. Like new condiditon, gonna add a quart to every oil change to bump up some zinc. Anyone know how much zinc per quart? I would think at least 1000ppm. Either way, free oil is good these days!
  5. It looks similar...how are you with a plasma cutter?
  6. There are a lot of shows within an hour or so drive from where you will be.
  7. I have two heads as well. Both stock from a 54 Savoy & Belvedere. What is your stamp date?
  8. If you have a fuel filter, make sure it is in right.
  9. So letting the engine idle, is bad for the valves and springs?
  10. While watching the motor run thru the side of the block, I noticed there is no oil hitting the valve stems. Lead from the gas lubricates them correct? http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CDEQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.39olds.com%2Flubrication.htm&ei=HCphUqCjKKGwygGM9oHAAQ&usg=AFQjCNF66F1QkZejAYkQmDk4sglTmBpaHA&bvm=bv.54176721,d.aWc&cad=rja
  11. Thanks for all the info...I forgot about the block size, and that would sum it all up.
  12. I have a ton of 54 Plymouth 230/218 engine parts. My father is eyeballing a 51 Desoto. Besides pistons, rods, valves will most parts interchange? My motors book describes all the Dodge, Desoto, Plymouth flatheads to reference the Chrysler section. Thanks
  13. Cripes! I just got the car back...gotta pull the nut and head to NAPA, after Iron Invasion tomorrow!
  14. Castle nut on the 54 Plymouth cracked, holding the drum on. What size is it? I know I should be able to pick one up fairly easy. Thanks!
  15. The big reason is due in part that the oil filter was sludge, and the oil probably had not been changed in many years. I just hate for anything to loosen up!
  16. I pulled the old "Champ" disposable filter off the beater 54 parts car. Plugged the ports and put in National brand 5w-30 and a bottle of the blue colored STP oil addative for the ZDDP. For the 54 model year, Plymouth offered a micronic oil filter "standard" on the Belvedere and Savoy models....so that left the Plaza dirty.
  17. Dropping the pan will allow for a visual inspection as well. Cylinders, crank, bearings, and whatever may be setting in the oil pan sludge itself. Oil, filter, gasket set should be about $55. A couple hours for the labor...not that much involved as far as investment.
  18. I have a grimy looking 218 I pulled from a 54 Savoy, have the head as well!
  19. I have a grimy looking 218 I pulled from a 54 Savoy, have the head as well!
  20. 1954 Savoy, manual 3 on the tree, 64400 miles, oil pressure 60 at hot idle... Car runs great, seats spongy due to cheap foam replacement. Changed the oil due to being black as night. Did not remove the disposable oil filter as they make no replacements. Checked the oil after change and still dark. Not going to due a motor flush as it might loosen debris up and cause a knock or something! I want to take this one up to the local race track and do some laps! I also plan on driving it to Iron Invasion!
  21. I would run 10w-30 in it.
  22. Went ahead and greased the gear parts. Only had one issue on the last drive. Seems getting to third need some cranking down.
