  1. This year of car has new and used parts available. I find everything I have needed on Craigslist or Ebay. I am curious what you are paying....while these are cool cars, they are not too desirable, and are often overpriced.
  2. What I meant by summer was the vehicle might only get 1000 miles on it. I just realized I need two, the 52 Desoto is getting a new motor! I think the Farm & Fleet one on sale is the same as the NAPA one, only $60 less. http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx/Battery-Automotive-Commercial/_/R-NBP7244_0398990508
  3. My fancy red topped battery took a dump in the parts driver. I would like a cheap battery... http://www.farmandfleet.com/products/040573-blains-farm-and-fleet-6v-24-month-commercial-battery.html
  4. But leaving it that way would not make it a rat rod. It would be a survivor, a rare breed indeed. Try and get it street worthy so you can enjoy it this summer, see what people say, then do the tear down in the winter. Having a tore down car in the summer is real a bummer....just ask me, I know! IMO you have a real rare car that is not seen at many shows. A lot of older Mopars are like that. That is going to be a great car in whatever state you call finished!
  5. I would leave that car the way it is. Pretty sweet looking in that condition.
  6. 54 230 motor, nothing special, all stock...
  7. Our local NAPA sends the oem one to Georgia to be rebuilt...did my 54 like that.
  8. I wear latex gloves when working on the nasty motors.
  9. I have been using the NAPA 1071 filter for the Plymouths....and Dodge. They look exactly the same.
  10. picture one is full of the grey stuff. I have seen the same thing in three engines I pulled now. must be lead.
  11. Getting ready to pull this motor and replace with the cleaner one. No wonder it spun a bearing!
  12. Not a spare, going in the 52 Desoto that had a spun bearing.
  13. Guy on ebay has 7 NOS...$30 each. Bet you can get a couple for a better deal. 301106511880 is the auction number.
  14. No, not going to remove the head. It was running when removed, going to disturb as little as possible!
  15. We bought this S15-1 a while back and dropped the pan and tappet cover...First thing I noticed is that 3 pistion rods were replaced as they were numbered out of order. Then I could tell the pistons were also changed. There was a little bit of slime in the pan as well. Next I noticed the springs, tappets and block...spotless! We were also able to hear the engine run befeore it was pulled.
  16. Engine block numbers located drivers side block, close to water pump. Cambridge 6cyl P24-1 Cranbrook 6cyl P24-2
  17. Is the oil being diluted with gas?
  18. I do add a pint of STP blue bottle. I thought the 10w meant 10 winter? And 40 meant summer weight?
  19. I opted to add a oil filter to the parts car 54 savoy. Mainly the thing drives real good, and is a real thrill to get jeers from folks amazed it is still on the road. So I would like to prolong its life. I had the canister and lines from another parts car scrapped long ago, so I used those. I added a NAPA 1070 gold filter for 6.99+tax, and a quart of Shell 10w-40 conventional. The added oil was real cool so it was exciting to feel the canister warm up (the car oil was hot) when testing the sytem for leaks and function. It warmed up quick! I also cleaned the oil breather cap with gas, and notice a considerable amount of fumes excaping, more than before! It must have been reall clogged.
  20. I want to add seat belts in my 54 Plymouth. The OEM seat has no way to add belts coming thru the seat. Anyone using an after market bench seat?
  21. It will. But do a couple dry runs first.
