  1. I've always been in the school of thought that chops NEVER look good on the P15-D24 cars. They have always looked off like a squashed bug, but man that is a great looking car! Perfectly proportioned.
  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_alginate Yup, it's made out of algae. I believe the main reason it's used in dentistry is because it's food safe. I don't know the cost of the stuff, but there may be better casting materials at a cheaper price. I remember I looked into doing some casting a few years ago. There used to be some supplies at Michaels.
  3. I've used the polishing kit by one of the manufacturers on my wife's Acura. It did an amazing job. You can do the same thing with fine grades of wet/dry sandpaper and polish with a plastic polish. It took all of the old yellow oxidized plastic off with the first stage, the following stages are just getting the scratches out that were caused by the first (much like color sanding paint) It's been about 6 months since I did the lenses and they still look good. I couldn't get over the difference in light output. They're HID lights
  4. Pop the filter off the carb when warm and make sure you're still getting a good squirt in the barrel as soon as you encounter the problem.
  5. And of course there's the classic 419 site www.ebolamonkeyman.com/ NSFW
  6. It doesn't matter what you're trying to sell nowadays. I had a condo for rent online (craigslist and the local Medical University were the worst for scammers). Anyway, one email wanted to send me money for an entire year of rent plus some extra which I would send back to him so he'd have money to furnish the place. Uh, yeah right.
  7. Watching live tv is pretty much torture once you've gotten used to PVRs.
  8. You don't? Where do you watch tv?
  9. Here's a picture of my grandfather with my Dodge. He bought it from his aunt in the 60's.
  10. I'll tell you the best thing to happen to my garage is the show "Hoarders". I had it on my TV last weekend while I was out in the garage. I threw out and put away more stuff in 2 hours than I have in the past 2 years. Anyone else watch that show and have it strike a nerve?
  11. That can usually be found in the OTC section of pharmacies. I would guess if mineral oil is too thick, glycerin may be as well.
  12. My Dodge has been in the family ever since it came off the lot, but I guess I've owned it for almost 20 years (maybe about 18)
  13. This topic comes up frequently on the sailboat forums I visit. Some take a mineral oil based fluid, others take a mineral spirit based fluid. Isopar L is used in Ritchie compasses and is basically just a very refined odorless mineral spirit.
  14. There is hope for some in the younger generation. A buddy of mine sent me a picture of his daughter's boyfriend's new car. He sold his Mini Cooper to buy an Olds with a 455 (I think it's around a '69). Needless to say, my friend is proud of his daughter for picking a good guy.
  15. After all this time off the forum, I come back to find out Norm still hasn't driven past the edge of his driveway?
  16. I've been out of real estate for about 2 years now. Luckily got out before things got real bad. I've been working with my wife for a little over a year. Haven't killed each other yet although there have been some close calls.
  17. My wife puts together medical cases for attorneys. Medical evaluations, pricing for future medical needs, finding experts.
  18. I want to do a driving event again soon. The last one I did was the opening of the new bridge several years ago. Also wanted to do a poker run around here for the cars. Most poker runs are for motorcycles or boats. I haven't seen the guy with the hearse recently. A lot of the regulars from 2-3 years ago have sort of disappeared and we have new regulars. I need to track down some of those guys, though. They still get my monthly reminders...
  19. I used some on some on my old 300zx in the hatch area. I used the stuff for carpets (got lucky with the color match) carpet was burgundy and had faded to almost a pink and you could see the black backer through the thin spots. Looked almost brand new after the spray. Also, used the vinyl spray on the plastic panels under the hatch. One area had faded to almost a pepto bismol pink color and started to crumble. The spray not only covered the pink, but it also seemed to hold the plastic together. I only had the car for about a year after that and the areas didn't see much wear, so I don't know the longevity. Also, since I wasn't really changing the color, I can't say how well it works for that.
  20. I've been running a fairly successful cruise-in once a month at a pizza joint. It takes place the last Saturday of each month in the evening. Well, a buddy of mine mentioned that he'd like to see something in the morning, so I made some calls and now have a Sunday brunch at another restaurant. It's on the second Sunday of the month so it won't interfere with the other cruise-in. If you've thought of starting something up in your area, don't hesitate. There's really nothing to it. Most people in my area are just itching to get their cars out, but don't like crossing the bridges around here and a lot aren't "show" cars so they appreciate just having a cruise-in instead of a car show. There's only been one Sunday brunch so far, but lots of positive feedback.
  21. Been a LONG time since I've been around these parts. Been busy getting our business running. My wife has had it going since 2005, but it got too big for just herself, so I came on to run the business part of it while she does all the hard work. We just hired 2 employees in the past 3 months, too. Lots of stuff getting in the way of doing all the fun things like coming here, working on my Dodge, etc. I'm really missing hopping in my Dodge for a quick run to the store or actually having it at my own cruise-ins (that one really hurts), so I need to get to work on getting it rolling again. Hope everyone has been well and looking forward to meeting all the "new" people.
  22. No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. Just been really busy with the new job. I've decided to get rid of the Datsun Roadster and concentrate on the Dodge and sailboat for now. Ever since Christmas, my wife and I have both been fighting off some vicious colds, doctor said I probably had walking pneumonia as well, but we're both on the mend. Sorry I haven't been around with all my insight recently:rolleyes:
  23. I grew up on Lowcountry boil so came to know Old Bay seasoning early on. I didn't learn until recently that it's a Yankee invention! Haven't looked at it the same since. Definitely a meal that needs a roll of paper towels on the table.
