  1. http://www.facebook.com/#!/Lar18611?sk=photosHere is a pick of the light switch that i have in my 48 Plymouth with the key off only one wire is hot and with the key on all wires a hot. Traced down the wires this morning and found out why the horn wasn't working and it is fixed but still no headlights. Anybody got any ideas?
  2. Yes the pic that Cass took is just what I am talking about. My car is still 6 volt and I will take a pic of my switch tomorrow. shouldn't that block have power to it? I tested it today and got no power to any of the bolt studs on the block but the siginal lights work and they are hooked up to it to. It almost sounds like there is a power failer somewhere in the wiring to that block doesn't it. Tomorrow I will take all the wire looms off and trace the wires back to the switch maybe one of the wire connectors came loose or not crimped good enough. Thanks for all the responces, Larry
  3. My head light switch doesn't look anything like that for sure. I guess it was changed out before I got the car so I don't know if I have a fuse or not on the car. In replacing the wires I never came accross any type of fuse the only thing I see is a three or four wire block under the hood on the finder next to the horns. The head light wires are hooked into this block I don't even know what it is called. When I rewired the car I did it by one wire at a time so I wouldn't get messed all up but I must of did something wrong somewhere even as carefull as I was. Just my luck. I guess I will go and trace down the wires from lights to switch. Thanks for the responce Bob, Larry
  4. I have had the light switch out and see nothing but the back of the switch. I will look again tomorrow. Thanks for the responce Ed
  5. I hear there is a fuse on the head lights on a 48 Plymouth Coupe can anyone tell me where it is located? I just got finished wiring the car one wire at a time and now I have no head lights or horn. I never came across a fuse block anywhere that I know of. I have tail lights and blinkers all work fine but head lights will not come on nore will the horn work. Anyone out there can show me how they are wired? I have no power going to the block that in on the finder under the hood should have power there because that is where the front blinkers are hooked up to also. What's the deal? Thanks in advance, Larry:confused:
  6. Here are some pics of the sedan I got today. http://s774.photobucket.com/albums/yy25/braular/
  7. I just had a 48 Plymouth Sedan delivered today from MN to Alvin, Tx. and only cost me 700.00 dollars from door to door. The companies name is Centrekin trucking Inc. contact Charles at 281-234-7752 or Kevin at 281-234-7015. Got the quote from Classic Car Transport,LLC call Jeremy at 913-749-0936 or cell # 816-267-3869 and he can help you. Move took place with no hitches. They require 200.00 down and the rest COD. They did a good job for me. Larry
  8. I be sure and post pics as soon as it arrives "If I'm still alive that is". Oh well we just spent $12,000 on her new ketchen with all new items and counter top so I think I can spend a little on myself. Larry Brauer;)
  9. Well I went and did it again. I just purchased another 48 Plymouth Special deluxe four door sedan. I just couldn't help myself and the price was right so I have to sneak this one under the wifes nose she doesn't know it yet and will probably be mad for a bit but as I see it "it is better to be forgiven than to ask". Larry Brauer:D
  10. Well thanks for the comments on the headliner. The reason I was asking is because there are I think six wires that go back but they don't come out anywhere in the trunk. The wires that do go back to the truck and tail lites do run under the floor carpet but are not correct size so I am not sure where these go or what shape they are in. I have found several wires that where hot with the key on that didn't go anywhere just hanging waiting for a short or fire. I know where two of the wires go and I have checked them which were the dome lite wires. I just hope the others are not like the ones I disgarded bare. So it is not that I want to replace them but I would like to see at least see what they look like then also I could run the right wires back to the tail lites the correct wires at least. This is on the drivers side of the car and on the passengers side there are two wires that go back too but don't come out anywhere in the trunk either and they too are hot but I don't know from where they are getting power from as they are hanging behind the kick panel and not connected to the dash. Thanks for any help I can get, Larry:confused:
  11. Does anyone know how hard it is to take out the head liner in a 48 Plymouth coupe P15 and put it back or how it is done. I am replacing the wires in the car and there are some that go over the doors that I need to replace but can't seem to just pull them out. I guess they have some kind of clips that are holding them down I don't know. Any pics or infromation will be taken, Thanks, Larry:confused:
  12. The tires look good when it is sitting on the ground. Tires are nice and straight it seems. I just figured that something was wrong because the other tire doesn't hang like that. Larry
  13. Anyone know what is wrong with the drivers front tire as it is leaning out at bottom. I checked for loosness and can't seem to find any. The car is on jack stands on the frame in the front.

  16. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong with the drivers side front tire that is leaning out at the bottom. I checked for looseness in the tire and there isn't any that I can come up with. The one on the passengers side is straight up and down. The car is on jack stands in the front on the frame. Thanks for the replies and I still can't get this pic thing right. Larry Brauer:confused:
  17. I had the same trouble with my 48 plymouth it would drive fine for a few miles and then quit. I would sit there a while and it would start back up and go another few miles. I got to tracing the wires on it and found that one of the wires on the silanode was loose. Tightened it up and no trouble since. I guess it just made conntact every once and a while and when I hit a bump it would disconnect. Any how I don't know if that is your problem or not but I would go through the car and make sure all wires are tight on the connections before I give up. It's to nice of a car to give up on it.
  18. I have spent two days with a guy that wants to buy my 52 F1 ford truck just to find out from Paypal that it is a scam. I have gotten 10 emails that are suppost to be from Paypal that they say they didn't send and the guy is telling me that his paypal account has taken 14,200.00 for me. Then the guy puts stipulations on that I have to pay 1,000.00 to his agent to come pick up the truck before paypal will give me the money fir the truck. I guess I fell for that one but at least I contacted paypal before any money went out of my pocket. Lesson learned; trust noone! Larry Brauer:mad:
  19. It sounds to me it would be some what cheaper to get a long block to put in. I have always had good experinces with them and sometimes they are even cheaper than a rebuild. I have rebuilt many engines and also had them rebuilt so to me that price seems a little high. Have you checked into a long block or a short block to see what the cost would be. If it isn't a large engine we are talking about you might come out ahead going this way. Money is money and time is time anyway you look at it. I would think that .080 is a lot on an old engine which will make the cylenders run hotter because of the thin walls. If it where me I wouldn't go the .080 on the pistons but just me talking. Hope you make the right decision, Larry Brauer
  20. I would say have the radiator cleaned and if you have done that then I would go with a larger one. It sounds like it is running pretty hot so check the radiator first and then I would make sure the timing is set where it is suppost to be that can make it run hot. If you have extra cooling fans on it it should make a lot of difference in running temp. Make sure that the cooling fans are running in the right direction of course. Hope this will solve the problems on the temp, Larry Brauer
  21. Welcome to the forum you will find a lot of good information here and more than that you will find a lot of good people here also. There is nothing like a Plymouth car or a Dodge truck. They are the best built in the world I think but I am kind of one way on this. I have owned just about all different kinds of cars and trucks but always come back to the Plymouth side. Good luck with your car and have fun. Larry Brauer;)
  22. Thanks for the suggestion on the plastic clips Richard. I just might have to do that if I don't hear back from the place that I called. Larry Brauer
  23. Anybody out there can send me a pic of the clip that holds the molding below the door on a 48 plymouth coupe. I have a place where I might be able to get them but don't quite know what they look like. The place is http://www.restorationspecialties.com . Thanks, Larry Brauer:confused:
  24. I thought it was incredable I didn't run over the engine. I guess like you said it was a make do time in someone's life instead of fixing it right. What a chance I was taking driving it around all this time. I guess I should count my blessings nothing happened while I was going 60MPH down the road. Anyway you all have a nice and productive day I know I will. Larry
  25. I finally got to the motor mounts on the 48 Plymouth and you will not believe what I found. On the passangers back mount was a piece of rubber about 2" by 2" and 1/2" thick for the top and a piece of 1" PVC pipe for the bottom with a large washer before the nut. On the drivers side was only the top mount and only a large washer on the bottom. I moved to the front mount and found that it wasn't even connected to the piece of metal for it. It seems that the bottom bolts where cut off and the mount was only connected to the engine it's self. It is a wonder the engine didn't fall out of the car what a supprise this was. Oh well I got it fixed right but had to get some longer bolts for the back mounts. Next I will tackle the wiring on the car like I said in the last post. I hope these pics of the motor mounts that came out of the car comes out cause I still have trouble attaching pics on here. Larry Brauer:eek:
