  1. ARP brand of strictly hi-perf. bolts uses cold rolled threads on their Mostly(?) automotive bolts. They also use American made steel to higher than most specs. They used to have a very detailed story of their why and how on their website. Does an old mopar flattie require this level of hi tech bolts? I think not! Have read many stories about how they make them and why they use the processes they do. Other uses of threads vary so much as to use psi requirements/ stretch, etc I cannot begin to comment. Average use bolts available today at most local suppliers is a big unknown. Just saying.
  2. Tatback, Pics. #1-3 show a piece of broken off piston skirt, but looking closely it appears that the sharp edge left after breaking off has been sanded off and piston reused. Pic. 4-7 looks like old block crack repairs?? Reoccurring?? Pic 6 showing also the fuel pump-- the internal arm and spring look strange to me But many diffenent mfg. co. made these so I will not say for sure myself. Did this motor throw a rod in its past? Thoughts after looking at pics. DJ
  3. Marty, Are you running all the stock type electrical wiring/switches/ kick down etc.? Did the shop check the trans op. with the OD ON??
  4. Posted Today, 05:15 PM DJ194950, on 24 Sept 2015 - 5:07 PM, said: Where did you get your replacement heater core? I plan to take mine to the rad shop to have it checked out and cooked. Just like a radiator recore the shop reused the top and bottom tanks from the Nos Heater core and ordered the correct size replacement which the recieved the next day , (new type tube and fin) core and soldered it back together. Price mentioned was the total repair/replacement cost. Good luck, I'd expect no issues.
  5. I have read articles in car magazines that said Cold Rolled thread bolts are stronger than cut thread bolts. There is also a Big difference between hot rolled threads and cold rolled. Attached just one of many posts on the advantage of cold rolled threads. What are the bolts that started this post?? Advantages of Rolled Threads _ Atlanta Rod _ Bolts _ Rods _ Studs - Atlanta Rod & Manufacturing.htm
  6. I have had a 7lb. cap on my alum. rad for 5 years In my 50 Plymouth now, not using a overflow tank just a hose to below the rad. from the fitting by the pressure cap. No leaks! No problems. Did need to have the heater core replaced but according to the rad. repair shop the NOS core I bought on epay had rotted though the honeycomb core from the original acid core solder use to put it together and all the years sitting it had never been washed out or used. Replace new type core and repair was about $130
  7. Seems per what my plymouth repair manual the rod should not be able to slide far enough
  8. Q. Do any of the exhaust manifold bolts come close to the valve/lifters where if the wrong length bolt is installed that it could make contact with either part?
  9. Kind of like owning a early Harley! I had a 64 Panhead Harley and no matter what I tried the engine and trans leaked. Bought a 2'x4' low sided floor catch pan- No more oils on the floor. Motor used 60 wt. oil, trans 90 wt. Sticky!
  10. A Little too low. It will never ride good! DJ
  11. Your electric fuel pump could have a "wreck" inertia fuel shut off added to the pump power feed. Something like the attached. Do you still have the parts car t-bird? It probably has one in the trunk behind the side cardboard panel.?Ford Inertia Switch Fuel Pump Shut Off Fordtruck Mustang Taurus Ranger Explorer _ eBay.htm This attachment did not come out good. Searched: automotive inertia fuel cutoff switch. Found this used one for $17 free ship on ebay. Sorry
  12. Can not answer your question directly but may I suggest a call to : rareparts.com- 800 6212005 that can and will make any suspension part with a sample and question them about the play in the same parts.. Their website shows that that they have many early parts (do they make them in the US ?) for Mopars including your year in stock. I do know that Napa is selling their parts now but they are NOT cheap. Just a thought. DJ
  13. PP can't (or won't) spend the money for real automotive paints or even clear because they are not available at the dollar store.
  14. The locks appear of the same style used on both my 50 Plymouths that in a 50 Mopar parts book shows all brands of 50's(mopar) used the same door lock cylinder retainer clip part # b1256563. Could not find a picture however, but it slides through the two grooves on the part that is in the door when the lock is in place. Maybe someone has one loose to get a picture for you. DJ
  15. See you had the AC on-- Windshield open and vent pushed out! Nice pics, love the 37 bus. cpes as I had one in the early 70's but very stupidly sold!
  16. Sounds like a automatic reset circuit breaker is cutting out, but does the 48 have one hooked up in the igition. circuit? Try taking a jumper wire direct from the battery to the coil to see if it will continue running after motor shutting down. A thought to check? DJ
  17. If you somehow inherited PP's cat, I hope you have fire sprinklers-at least over the beer fridges!
  18. Never heard of Grass Valett, Ca. what part of Ca. is that Paul? Dang I misspelled it!!
  19. To a modified car do as you please. Mopar factory accessory add on see attached:
  20. I agree with above posts about changing shops. !0years+ ago I worked for a equip. rental co (hi-reach,forklifts etc.) I made a change to work in their forklift shop. One of my first projects to repair was a specialty forklift in high demand that they only had one of. One of the problems it had torn up 2-3 ring gears and 20+ starter bendix gears in the 5 years they owned it. The starter was one off for them and had no spare. Machine on rent broke down regularly because of starter problems. I pulled the starter and the bendix gear was torn up again. This co. had their own rebuild shop for starter and more. I knew the foreman of that shop well and demanded him to personally find the starter problem. Turns out there is a starter rebuild book with starter numbers and part #'s used per application. For this motor combo took 10 teeth on the bendix and they had Always replaced the bendix with what Came on it when the forklift was purchased used (11 tooth)!! For 5 years they made the same mistake and Never once looked at the book they had!
  21. From 50 Mopar parts book. Looks like my 50 P-20 except I think the rod from the throttle to bell crank used rods with 60 degree bends and clips. I would really prefer to have it per the diagram using rod ends with nuts and no clips. Hope this is what you are looking for. Ignore the extra parts show for a auto trans setup. DJ
  22. Bob I make the same change on my 50 Ply. and had the same problem with the 555004 shock bottoming out. found a shorter shock with the # 555003. Specs. 555004 compressed length 11.25 extended " 17.875 travel 6.625 555003 9.65 14.75 5.125 Closest shock that I found that was shorter. Many, many longer avail. Both are gas filled RV shocks. Edit to add that this did work out.
  23. If you need a complete drive shaft you can check with: Turlock Auto Wreckers- 209-632-7500 (central Ca.) They have a fairly complete 50 Ply. 4 dr. in their yard. Does it still have the drive shaft? I never checked that. A friend bought the gas tank from it. But, I think i would probably have a new one made for somewhere arround $400?? Don't know Socal pricing. Just a lead for you. DJ (norcal)
  24. I agree with draining the gear oil to check for metal. Do not remember if the OD portion has it's own drain. Maybe a call to: A&A Standard Transmission in Stockton. CA. Has been 2 years ago or so but they told me they still stock many parts for the old Mopar OD's. Maybe their thoughts whats going on? 209-466-2764
