  1. I was driving the NYS Thruway for work today and in the last few days they've put up signs saying "text stop" at the rest stops and parking areas along the Thruway.
  2. It seems common sense to me too... and that's how I learned to drive.... but some people aren't smart enough to get it. They probably never changed a tire on the side of the road with traffic roaring by. After losing some NYS Troopers and a rash of tow truck operators, they had to do something. If that's what it takes... then that's what it takes. One of our employee's ladyfriend (60 ish and old enough to know better) got a ticket a couple months ago.
  3. I drive a lot. Between work and personal, I do about 30K miles a year. I see texting drivers all the time and have had a couple close calls because of them. I see the irony of Greg's post, but I gotta say that the average driver that is texting probably doesn't know they passed the law. Reading it on the sign is probably the only way they are going to even know that. NY State also did this when they enacted the "Move over" law where you have to change lanes when you go around emergency vehicles. From my observation, that law seems to be working as drivers do move over now and the only ones not moving over have out of state plates on their cars. So, I would say the signs must have helped.
  4. It was great to meet Bill and to finally meet Greg! I've walked by his car many times at shows but never saw him around it before. Greg, regarding the "Long Distance" award, the show chairman is an old friend of mine. He asked me what I thought about the show and I have mentioned that in an email to him. I'm sure the award wasn't intended for a trailered car, but we'll see what he has to say.
  5. Bought the 15 yard roll. That's what I needed.
  6. $2.95 a yard. I bought some and it looks OK to me. It's probably not as nice as some, but at almost 1/3 the price, it's worth a look. http://www.perfectfit.com/15308/154170/Bindings-Trims/Windlace--Automotive-Cloth-Covered.html
  7. It's not even in Binghamton. It's in Greene, home of Raymond (owned by Toyota) forklifts.
  8. Charlie, I quoted you and posted a want ad on our Roadrunner forum. If there's anyone that can find one, it's those guys.
  9. Not quite the same, but still a Roadrunner pillowcase. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Roadrunner-Wile-E-Coyote-Pillowcase-Early-Warner-Bros-Bedding-/200840268698?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item2ec3034b9a
  10. I removed my dash to rewire and repaint it. I made a couple of stands from old bed frame. The harness is easy if you take your time and use a little common sense. I used the same method that I've seen used in factories to make harnesses for machines. Lay the old harness out on a piece of plywood and use some finishing nails to make the "pattern". Remove one wire at a time, replacing it with new wire. Solder or crimp the ends on (I won't start the crimp/solder discussion) and use heat shrink tubing to insulate as needed. Wrap the completed harness with vinyl wrap (no adhesive). Rhode Island wiring harnesses are great from every report but they are also kinda "pricey". I used the wiring diagram from my manual to figure out sizes and colors. Length takes some estimating though. Here's a hint though... figure out what you need and buy another 10 feet of each color.
  11. Just spotted this on the HAMB. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=748916 Can't tell you anything else, I don't know him etc.

  13. Just a wild guess here, but is that the wire that goes to the choke thermostat?
  14. Marty... I'm laughing... I actually typed that and then decided it might just confuse things, so I deleted it. Of course, you can just get the proper polarity digital vibrator and you're all set.
  15. Tube radios don't care about polarity either.
  16. Yea, I know that is true, but I went through this myself (I was hit by a off duty cop) and discovered that the lawyer bills would cut into the settlement to the point of where it wasn't worth it. That is if I even got a settlement..... Lesson learned for me... collision insurance on everything I can't afford to just walk away from. I went through this again, not my fault, but no witnesses and his word against mine. I got my OT car fixed, paid the deductible, let the insurance company argue it out and in a couple weeks got a check for the deductible. Believe me, I understand some things have to be done with lawyers... but I really think it's the last thing you want to do in a lot of cases.
  17. If you have collision insurance, get the car fixed and let the insurance companies fight it out. Hiring a good lawyer (emphasis on good) will cost $$. You already pay insurance premiums in case this happens.
  18. I'm sorry to read of the loss of your buddy. I lost the best dog in the world some years ago. None of the dogs I've had before or since even start to measure up.
  19. I thought I'd bring back this thread. We signed my grandson up for hockey last weekend. Here he is clowning around with a goalie mask at the skate shop.
  20. For what it's worth, my 265 doesn't use lock washers on the rod bolts. If I had to though, I would probably use a small flat washer to fill the counterbore in the rod and then lock-tite the nut.

  22. What about using replacement 6 volt LED lights. The increased brightness might be what you are looking for.
  23. My big Ford truck has a NVG transfer case. Ford used a lot of them in their trucks. As a side note, New Process Gear in Syracuse, builders of the mentioned NV4500 and assorted other transmissions (like the A833), transfer cases and transaxles, has ceased operations. It's last shift was Friday.
  24. About three and a half years ago, my oldest son woke up to this in his yard. The van launched itself on the driveway and up and over my son's van. Never touched it. And yes... identical vans...
  25. Where are those usually mounted on the Ford?
