  1. I am always amazed when I am reading the News how few people from the entertainment industry I recognize. I either have to look them up(if I care enough) or ask my wife(who knows almost all of them)
  2. Did it have a manual choke at some point? I am looking at the manifold and it looks different from mine. Stock 217 correct?

  5. If you are getting a lot of fuel you could have flooded it. Is there spark? The Sission choke is electrically activated when the starter is engaged by a lead from the main starter terminal. After the engine starts and the starter is no longer engages it reverts to a bi-metal expansion type. You can check choke operation by either using a remote start or getting someone else to crank the motor while you watch with the air cleaner off to see if it closes. If there is no movement check to see if the linkages are hooked up. A search here will give you a lot of information. If that is working check all the usual suspects, spark plugs, rotor, cap, points(especially adjustment). The wire to the points inside the distributor has a nasty tendency to break and loose contact. Ethanol is usable. It just tends to make vapor lock easier on hot days and of course also eat untreated rubber parts of the fuel system.
  6. Depends on how much you want to use it. They used to be pretty pricy Back when that was the only way and you need or wanted a lot yeah. Now with the internet being available right now and good items selling quickly it priced right, for me no. As far a Chevies, they are Chevies. If quality was a factor, Mopars would be on top. Like everything else, look at selling prices , not asking prices.

  8. I would bet on the tiny vent inside the master cylinder being partially or fully blocked a search should bring up pics of it and you can clear it with a very small wire. If you take the cap off and GENTLY push the brake pedel you should if it is clear see a small spurt of fluid. If you don’t it is blocked
  9. In Illinois after age 75 you have to pass written and driving tests for each renewal. However each renewal is at 4 year intervals and a lot can happen in four years. i plan to drive the school bus till 76 but that's it. Cannot see me parallel parking a 40 footer again at the point in time,.
  10. If it sat for a long time it is possible there is a partial blockage In a fuel line or filter that lets enough fuel through For light operation but not enough for higher loads. Did you clean the tank? Maybe blow out the lines and check or replace the filter? It most likely has an external one iF an electric pump is installed. There is a filter of sorts in the tank as well so a little air back through the line might help. Is the issue higher rpms in any gear or just third. Might also just be crappy Chinese parts. Where did you get the tune up stuff?
  11. I understand the Chrysler straight eights are a little delicate and although different would probably be expensive to do in addition to parts being harder to find. The extra length can also be an issue although I am sure not an insurmountable one.One thing about going with a period Mopar Rod is the fact that it would be unique. Unlike the standard everybody has one small block Chevy powered whatever a fodder big flathead will draw attention from anyone who has any idea about old cars. I remember several yeats ago at a show where a guy had a low rider setup on a late 40’s Plymouth but it had the original flathead in it. Almost everyone who went by stopped to look at the hot rod six.

  13. What are you trying to say? I used to ice race in the far distant past, although we did do wheel to wheel. I don’t ever remember doing 90 mph though, unless you count wheel spin.
  14. Back in the 70's before my wife's Grandfather gave up driving he and the Grandmother went out occasionally together. They were a team. He did not drive anywhere without her. She helped him watch traffic and they only went locally to the Dr. or a restaurant. Considering they were both in their 80's at the time they did pretty good. They stopped when he was about 85 or 86 as he said he no longer felt confident of not hurting someone else. Hopefully I will be as smart. I have known others who drove safely into their 90's and then my Dad quit when he was younger than I am now(70). You never know how long you can go on.
  15. Well since the conversation has slid(?)a bit I will mention that on both my wife’s and daughters Kia Soul I put on a set of a relatively new tire design called All-Weather tires. These are by Nokian, whichI believe is a Finnish Corporation. Kia Souls with original tires ace about the worst snow and ice cars I have ever driven. Short wheelbase and light weight even with front wheel drive they sit and spin. And stopping, forgettaboutit. But changing the tires made a dramatic difference. Great traction and much better braking. Not cheap, one car was $750 and the other almost $700 but worth it.
  16. Well what I did on my Plymouth when I needed tires was to go to a local used tire seller and got four radials in good condition. I paid about $250 for then. Although not historically correct they have done the job well. Much better than the H78’s that were on there.

  19. I expect mine only leaks while running and maybe a short time after parking. I do occasionally run it in the garage just cause if I haven’t had a chance to drive it for a couple of weeks. Still only a small amount
  20. As I arrived on site a minute ago a screen appeared asking me two set up two factor id for my account. It wanted to set up security questions for the safe operation of my account. It took a couple of try’s but it finally disappeared. Looked phony to me
  21. I noticed a leak on my 52 shortly after I bought it 18 years ago and did worry mostly about getting oil on the clutch disc. But the leak was small(never enough to show on the stick) and eventually I decided to heck with it and put a drip pan under the car. Don’t regret that choice at all
