  1. I thought car porn was safe to look at!
  2. I got it when I clicked on austinsailers reply to Todd B's selling his truck. I get one of these notices about 2-3 times a year.
  3. I just clicked on a post on the truck forum and was warned by avast that a malicious attack was just averted! I should have snipped a picture of it. But I did snip a pic of where it came from! I have nver had a attack on this forum before.
  4. I'm was kinda suprised yours has the IRS rear end as your pics show a 1 ton "DU" suspension under your route van! The parts books show the EU as the IRS rear end and thats what I have seen on 2 of the big EU's in a wrecking yard . I looked in the shop manual deeper and see that the smaller DU is a swing axle too with the 1 ton pumpkin.Does your model tag show it as a DU? I have only seen maybe 5 or so RV's in person myself over the last 30 years. Where did they all go? I'd love to see more of them get restored. Bob
  5. As above-laundry detergent and scrub a lot. It will clean up beautifully.
  6. Your Route van is a "DU' series 1 ton model -lighter duty of the two models of Route vans. It has six lug nut wheels. The bigger model "EU" a 1-1/2 tonner has five big lug nut wheels and has the IRS rear suspension also. Both models use the smaller 23" 218/230 engine. Good luck with your very rare project!
  7. A good auto/truck machine shop person is one to be consulted on this issue as they deal with it day to day.
  8. Very nice work. It deserves some "Bullseyes" too!
  9. "Ran when parked" Yes a statement I have heard so many times from people selling cars and trucks I have looked at or bought over the years. Sooner or later I will be saying that too when I sell the vehicles off. Difference is I will- hopefully be able to say-It will start right up even after sitting out for years. I saved these big trucks because they were to be scrapped. I wonder at times if this was a smart move
  10. Yesterday was a nice sunny day. A good day to start up one of the big Dodge 2-3/4 ton parts trucks that has not been run for two years. Clean the points, pull the carb tops to get the accelerator pumps/jets working. Install the 12 volt battery. Crank it over-boom fires right off but on 5 cylinders. Ran it at slow RPM for 10 minutes-still on five. Better pull the plug on dead #3. Plugs are pretty rusty on the outside. I replaced them when I bought the truck in 1985. They only have 15 miles on them but at least several hours run time just to keep the truck movable. Well I tried to remove the plug gently as I knew rust was an issue and I have broken them off in parts vehicles before! Well the darn plug Hex top instanly broke off. I cannot spell the swear words I was saying. I was flabbergasted that I broke it to say the least as I now had to load up my "blue tip" wrench set and get it down to the truck. Those welding bottles are heavy and should stay in the shop where they belong not heating spark plug casings busted off in a 306 Dodge! An extra hour and a half all was fixed- including the sticky intake valve but what a Dodge truck revival day! Please change your spark plugs in your outside parts cars in wet country every 5 years otherwise you will be dealing with this issue.....! It was kinda fun though!!! Bob
  11. Wow! Merle and me sure got on that one with the same identical info!
  12. Mike.. The inner drum seal is part #574563. Same as a H and HH series truck .Does not matter if single or 2 speed axle 1948-53. Right rear W/Cyl 19Pt. # 1271422.Left rear cylinder is Pt.# 1271423. Fit B1,2,3 models. All this info out of the 1948-53 Dodge master parts book. I thought I had a 1950 Truck parts book. Nope only 48-9 and all other years! Bob
  13. The converts, Limo's and 7 passenger cars had the straight transverse rod with a built in shock absorber at one end. All others had a transverse strut rod with a kinda big curved hoop in it at one end without the shock damper unit. same as DeSoto's and Chryslers. Your frame on the drivers side should have a stud there staight above the axle housing to mount one end of this strut or swaybar assembly. As for the oil fill plug missing from the rear of the axle housing-most 1941-8 cars had it there, possibly your car is a real late 1948 car as in 1949 the plug is in the differential carrier case as you have. I think your car was at one time owned by a "hack" owner! Bob
  14. I think your rear axle is stock even with the transverse strut bracket! Two types of transverse struts were used on the D24 Dodge cars. Bob
  15. I tried to vote." But.... Oops! "Something went wrong! So here's what I voted on... 1st question.. yes 2nd Question.. no 3rd Question.. no vote because of no vote on 2 4th question.. yes Almost gave up on this poll!
  16. George I was stating just the 1948-50 big truck specs. In 1951 the tonnage ratings and engine specs changed. Your 1951 B3VX twin screw is rated as a 3-1/2 tonner. Kinda odd as the tandem axle is rated the same as the regular B3V which is also also rated at 3-1/2 tons! All the "V" series trucks in 1951 and up were now rated at 3-1/2 tons. Bob
  17. It does have a longer engine bay-the engine is a 30" but actually the engine is about 8" longer than a 250 or 265 2 to 2-1/2 ton engine. Austinsailer I bet would love that engine and trans! The radio antenna and hood ornament are nice extra's for sure! It should have had a hood ornament. All the heavy trucks had Timken axles front and rear with either cast spoke or 10 bolt Budd wheels. Bob
  18. Well boys.... All 1948-53 2-1/2 tonners have the shorter nose same as used on the 1-1/2 to 2 ton trucks and all use the 25" engine. The bigger heavy series Dodge trucks all have the 6-8" longer nose and really wide (10") front fender extentsions for the bigger cast spoke or 10 bolt budd wheels. That 1948-50 truck most likely is a 2-3/4 to 3 tonner. It's got the 30" Moly 7 main bearing block engine in it too. Starting in late 1950 Dodge came out with a 4 ton model called the Y series. It had a displacement of 377ci. The late intro 1950 Model "Y" t is the only model that could have the factory installed twin carbs of any 1948-50 heavy duty series Dodge trucks. You need to open the drivers door and look for the Data tag as already mentioned on the hinge piller and see what it says. Shown is a 1948-50 tag and the later 1951-53 Data tag. B1R (2-3/4 ton) will have a 281ci. B2R will be a 306ci. B1T and B2T (3 ton) will have the 331ci. B1V and B2V series (heavy 3 and 3-1/2 ton) will also have the 331ci engine. If it is a B2Y or B2YA (4 ton) it should have a 377ci twin carb and exhaust engine most likely with air brakes. Stamped Engine ID number is on the front of the engine, drivers side, behind the oil fill pipe and below the head a couple inches. With air brakes you cannot see it. Hope you can suck all this tech info in! Bob
  19. The 218 rod part# 617925 has a 7.937" c to c measurement. The 230 is slightly shorter.
  20. If I was to put a diesel in one of my big dodge trucks it would have to be a Detroit diesel. Those DD's are one screaming piece of rotating machinery! every time I hear one which is hardly ever any more I have to stop what I'm doin just to see and listen! I remember the old Euclid dozers ran those screaming Detroits too! Amazing engines compared to todays enviroment friendly diesels. You will hear one coming before you even see it!
  21. Here is a picture of the types of crank pulley bolts used and the socket sizes. Bob
  22. I have seen many crusty old Mopar wheel cylinders like that.Your cylinders look deeply pitted. I'd say you should get new wheel cylinders or have your old ones sleeved by Whitepost restorations or Hagen's. Bob
