  1. What will happen if a 1949 Desoto is converted to have a Weber carb ? Will the fluid drive shifting still operate without the original carb’ s electrical hook ups ? Thanks for any input

That gear shift downshift button is all you need to cause a forced downshift.

A good running healthy engine usually won't stall out when coming to a sudden stop...especially with the clutch pushed in.

The instrument cluster lights are really cool...kinda purple back ground with green glowing needles as I recall?

      Jeez....auto correct!

I need to read and re-read this silly phone and it's idea of what it thinks I need to type!

The cater carb has the kick down switch for the trans....a must, but just using a ground out button mounted elsewhere will work too.

Then the anti-stall solenoid mounted on top of the carb prevents engine stalling as the car comes to a fast stop.

You could drive the car as is now with the two anti-stall wires dis-connected and see if the trans and engine operate ok...if so you don't need the anti-stall hooked up.

What's wrong with your original carb?

You need the carb electrical kick down switch and really also the antistatic  too.

      Hey thanks!

      Glad to help out.

As for rims....nope my buddy has had some of the 1/2 ton 15" rims in the past.

Someone here might have some...maybe "ggdad" might be able to help.

  5. After changing oil (car on jack stands) I noticed when I turned the steering wheel to the far right there was a small amount of lash. So I turn it to the left stop and found even more lash. I put my magnetic protractor on the steering wheel and rechecked the lash 10deg right and 30deg left. Is this something that should be looked into? There does not appear to be any Lash in the center.

Car is a Dodge d5 biz coupe.

Thanks in advance for your reply

Some last at ends of turns is normal. Center position with the slightest lash is good.

  6. Hi, maybe you saw my post about sales filmstrips.  I have some sales strips from 49 and 50 covering the Plymouth and the DeSoto.  I've had them since the early 80s when I got them at a San Diego swap meet.  I don't have the records.  I'm in the process of trying to digitize the filmstrips so that other collectors can see these rare films.  It would great if I could find the records too. Do you have any of the records from those years of sales filmstrips on DeSoto or Plymouth?  Thanks, Marc.

I don't have any 1949-50 Plymouth or DeSoto record and film sets...I do have plenty of 1950-53 Chrysler ones though and all the 1947-60 Service film and record sets.

Also 4 filmstrips on late 30's Mopars.. no records though.

  7. Do you have the C-clamps for my 48 DeSoto?  Do you have any pics of them?  Thanks, Marc.

  8. If memory serves,,,  You posted a pick of your new (then) arrival a 413.16. May I duplicate that post to show anyone what a 413 looks  like?   I'll keep all information private except for the cropped engine picture.  Did you ever find another?   Charlie Stephensongallery_6429_494_253015.jpg

  9. image.png.05f95d75a588156401db546d84934935.pngI just read your June 12, 2016 post about the “Fluid Drive Coupling” on the prestomic transmission which is in my 1949 Chrysler Windsor. I have an issue and I think you might be able to help me. I drained the fluid drive transmission on my 1949 Chrysler Windsor and refilled. Right after, I realized I put in three quarts of 10W but was supposed to put in three pints. When I went to drain off the additional three pints, nothing came out the drain plug. After reading your post, I realize that I put the fluid in the fluid drive coupling unit. Can you give direction as to what I need to do to correct this. I feel like a fool! Any help would be appreciated.

The fluid should have drained right out of the bell housing for sure!

It's just an open cavity enclosing the fluid drive coupling and at the bottom of it there is a 4" square screen and or a 1/4"  hole at the bottom of the bell housing. The above drawing shows that lower screen that oil would pour out of.  It is not sealed in any way. The oil you poured into the bell housing  had to come out. I just don't see haow the 3 quarts of oil would not run out of the housing.

I've had so many of those housings apart over the years.

Did you have your drain pan under it? Was the car parked over dirt or concrete when you did this work?

It would take over an hour to put three quarts in the fluid drive coupling because of the tiny 3/8" fill hole ( access through the top side of the bell housing.

If you were even able to put one quart in the fluid coupling then it would have a bad leak and require removal to fix that leak. You also cannot drain the Fluid Drive coupling with out first pulling up the carpet... removing the floor access cover on the right side... then popping off the "FluidDrive" bell housing metal cap.... then rotating the Fluid Drive coupling till the 3/4" fill plug lines up with the access hole in the bell housing... all this just to check the fluid level in the coupling or to start the process to drain it which I would not do if the coupling is working fine and not leaking.

      So....

You drain and refill the 1949-52 Prestomatic M-6 transmission all from under the car. The picture shows the fill plug and right below it the drain plug.

The check will be mailed tomorrow AM.

      Thanks a million Rich!

PS... I thought you were kinda blowing me off because I would see you posting to the forum but not to my phone call or PM.
